I have a modded ak100 (someone in HK helped me with bypassibg the 22 om). Listrid 2.0 is too powerful for it. Even with EQ off, I can hear some distortion (pairing with IE80). Modded AK100 with official firmware delivers less aggresive and more natural sounds.

Nice Rig Rudi.....

I've been using my stock AK100 (2.01 FW) with my Heir Audio Rendition1 amp.....However I have now come to the conclusion that the AK100 wih my Tzar 350 and Aurisonics ASG2 really do not require the amplifier.....unless I want extreme volume levels. At the moment I have to turn the volume on the AK100 to between 55 and 65 to get a realistic volume level out of it. But I prefer the smaller footprint of DAP and IEM most of the time (they both fit into a Pelican 1010 case without any problem).

If I ever decide I want better dynamics / soundstage etc (usually at home or in the office) then I connect the AK100 to my Rx Mk3-B amp and this does provide a distinct improvement in sound....it also means if I ant to I can use my IEM with a balanced cable :)

Hi Jason, what's your take on the pairing of mk3b and ak100? And how's the improvement of using single ended and balanced on the mk3b?

Thank you Jason

AK 100 with fw 2.01 : some like the SQ for iems, some don't like with less bass impact

Personally I like my AK 100 with Listrid 2.00 fw , I like the bass impact and fast Bass Speed .

Especially in high impedance Headphone Listrid fw 2.00 can give me full balance sounding and very good bass impact .soundstage is wider than use in iems .better separation as well.
IMO Better than fw 2.01

I think it reasonable that the RWA S version owners start their own impressions/appreciation thread as the mod significantly and effectively changes the device parameter and intention....

Lets keep this thread devoted to the AK/RWAK/MS-AK and others the retain the amplified output stage...

Hi Capri,

Obviously the main benefit is I can use a wider variety or IEM's and High Impedence Headphones. However if I stick with the Tzar 350 and ASG2 which pair with the AK100 without problems then using the AK100 and Rx provides more power....a wider soundstage and definately better dynamics. Weirdly I don't really hear much of an improvement with the Rendition 1 amplifier, however with the Rx it is the complete opposite and a definate improvement.

As far as balanced goes of course it is only the IEM's that are balanced out and the AK is connected via a mini to mini. Once again there is another step up using my Beyer T70p with balanced connector....improved soundstage and dynamics a really nice sounding setup.

Overall yes, that sounds fair, but I for one would still like some brief impressions / comparisons with AK100 (and variants) just like when AK120 was new. Helps to understand if it's worth us considering the mod

Also that would mean 2 threads talking about mostly the same thing:  firmwares, A&K issues, mods...

My apologies if this issue has already been clarified/resolved, but could someone give brief impressions and/or pros/cons of Listrid 2.0 versus iRiver 2.01? I am currently running an unmodded AK100 through an ALO International into a pair of FitEar TG334s through ALO SXC 24 cables with a mini-balanced connection. Current FW is 1.33.

Thanks.
