Is it just my nano, or do any of you other owners notice the player going into "deep" sleep sooner than previous iPods? I believe my mini stays in "sleep" mode for a couple days before going comatose (requiring the menu/select 'reset'). nano appears to go zonko after just one day - at least that's my perception. I'll measure it further if no one confirms the behavior with their player.

This is probably because the Nano uses flash for it's medium of choice. This doesn't take nearly as much time to spin up as a harddrive, so they don't need to keep it 'At the ready' nearly as long.

Battery lasts over a week in deep sleep mode, just like the other iPods, although it's rare that I leave it alone for a full week

. Remember, there's standby/sleep mode (from which iPod can near-instantly power up), then there's "deep sleep" mode (which preserves battery even further by requiring 'boot up'). The latter of the two happens after a couple of days with my mini, but appears to occur only after a day or so with nano.

Actually, I believe iPods are designed to initially go into this 'sleep' mode for the express purpose of making start up near-instantaneous. They only go into the 'deeper sleep' when left inactive for a longer period to preserve power. Sleep mode behavior has been consistent with all the iPods I've owned (six total). It's the 'deep sleep' mode that appears to have changed with nano.

IME, all iPods except the nano have "sleep" and "deep sleep" modes. From sleep, the iPod wakes up instantly with a press of a button, as power is maintained to RAM. After 36 hours or so, it goes into deep sleep, which requires bootup when waking it. The nano has an additional sleep mode, I'd like to call "pre-deep sleep, that it enters after 12 hours maybe. I don't know what the point of it is, but when waking it from pre-deep sleep, it shows the Apple logo for a second (much shorter than a full boot) and then goes back to where you left it as though you just woke it from sleep. With pre-deep sleep or just sleep, I've noticed that the battery meter goes down from a full charge, although I don't know if battery life is actually reduced.

Yes, that is the behavior to which I'm referring. So you're saying nano has no 'deep sleep'? Perhaps nano has 'nap' and 'sleep'.
