I just have to say that I am still blown away. I really do not think it will register for some time. Afrikane, I am so very thankful. Your generosity will definitely be remembered. Thank you

Unfortunately, I have to go to my Master Teacher's Back to School Night and meet the parents. Otherwise I would gush on all night

I agree, but you want to hear something sad?

My dad told me 'nothing in life is free'.

Combined with my father's words of wisdom, along with the fact that I live in southern NJ (where everyone is out for only themselves), I can only be sceptical of these free give aways, which range in the many hundreds of dollars.

I know it is sad to think that, but I am just being honest here folks. The fact that I am a cynic by nature doesn't help.

At any rate, as hard as it is for me to accept the fact that someone is simply giving away upwards of $900 worth of gear just because 'Head-Fi is cool', I applaud the jesture. I only wish I earned the type of income that would allow me to give away such expensive gifts. If I were Bill Gates, I can promise that I would give each and every member of Head-Fi a pair of Omega 2s.

But I digress.

Congrats to the winner of the RS-1s, and congrats in advance to the winner of the K701s. For the fella giving away such expensive gifts (with apparently no strings attached) - thank you for (if only for a few moments) restoring my faith in the charity, generosity, and decency of humanity.

Personally, I find the way Bill and Melinda Gates dole out money to be far more useful.

Exterminating malaria and tuberculosis, or subsidizing audiophilia in the wealthiest country in the world...hmmm...

I started out in this hobby for same reasons many of you did, practicality. Blessed with two wonderful kids in the space of 4 years I was just not able to get my music fix via the main Hi-Fi anymore and so stumbled in here to find out what gives in headphone land. Living as I do in a far away place meets and shops that sell decent headphones are non existent so the only way I was going to hear any of the great cans frequently discussed here was to buy them. It’s been a trip and half and I am very close to my ideal rig hence the great offload of 2006.
Why just give them away? Look, I have been working since I was 17; I am now 42 and obviously not struggling to make ends meet. Over those years many people have helped me out in many different ways and thus I have instilled in me the attitude that when you can, just pay it forward, it helps to make the world a less cynical place. Of course I would like these cans to go to some deserving individual but there is no way I can do that in a manner that is fair and equitable and thus I try cover as wide a base as possible with giveaways and hope for the best outcome.
Now some have bandied about some dollar values to what I am doing, consider this please, all the cans have been used by me, fully, and in my opinion I have had the fair use of their purchase price (not the GS1K but that is for the HP section). Consider this too, the guys here that make this a great forum to come to and learn about our hobby/passion dispense their hard won knowledge day after day. Can you put a dollar value on their contribution? You could try by totting up how much they have saved you with good advice, or you try work out what it cost them in gear to have that knowledge in the first place etc. I aver that it is incalculable.
Remember that I was certainly not the first to give stuff away and definitely won’t be the last either.

By now of course a few of you have taken a peek at my inventory and wondered what’s next? Forget it guys, the last pair of free phones will be the DT880 (2006), whatever is left over afterwards that won’t be used will be for trade/sale, I have my eye on an ES1 and my dollar exchange rate has gone down the tubes.
So can we end all the trumpet blowing please? Now go listen to some music.

PS: Crazyfrenchman makes an excellent point, I should know as my country has benefited from their charity.
