I work 8+ hours in a busy environment, and my only way to disconnect from that environment is with headphones. Unfortunately any pressure from the headphones adds up over time, and then I'm "done" and have to take them off. What's are the best headphones out there that feel like a cloud when you're wearing them? I'd literally like to forget that I had them on. Price doesn't matter for the sake of discussion. Audio quality does.

I wear headphones most of the day at work. Full disclosure: I have a very large head and medium to large ears.

My most comfortable and most head-time:
-MDR-Z7 (closed/semi-closed)
-Philips shp9500 (open) - leak sound like crazy so might not be good for a noisy environment.
-The bose QC35 are also really comfy if your ears aren't really large and ANC doesn't bother you.

So you wanna feel a cloud on your head? I can't recommend anything more than one of Audio Technica's signature "3D Wing Technology" based headphones. They're specially designed to basically float on your head, feeling weightless with almost no clamping force. I namely recommend the ATH-AD900x and ATH-R70x as they are great sounding and affordable as well.

But they're not really for everyone. If you have a small head, the headphones may kinda drift down on your head a little bit. This can be fixed with some simple adjustments, though. Also, their earpads don't have a very wide diameter, so my big ears have some trouble fitting in. Oh, yeah, and I forgot to mention that they are open-backed. So sound leaks in and out of them. There are closed-back variants of these headphones, but I haven't tried them.

HD650 and HD600 and by extension HD598 are feather light, comfortable pads, and you can forget you're wearing them. No ear sweat, no rings around your ears. I routinely fall asleep with mine on.

Any of the beyerdynamics would be a close 2nd although the foam in the pads tends to squish down after several months of heavy use and I find myself swapping their pads out more than I'd like.

I actually have the HD650 as well, and I'm looking for something even less noticeable. The very fact that they clamp onto my head with pressing force is enough to notice them. That said, they aren't nearly the skull crushers that other headphones can be.

Audio Technica's 3D Wing Technology as mentioned before looks interesting as it's a completely different way to wear headphones. Perhaps there are other unique designs that prioritize comfort.

I don't know about the M40x, even with custom earpads. Dat headband, you know? If the Sony XB1000 still existed, I'd suggest it. Well, it was a bass cannon, though.

You have not mentioned if you are looking for closed or open? Open are always more comfortable for long periods (for me) and right now I use the AKG K7XX (Massdrop) which are super light and have very comfortable pads......excellent sound as well.

The only closed cans I have are the NAD Visio HP 50's which are my overall favorite headphones. But....they are a "funky" fit and don't fit everyone. You would really need to try them first. I have no issues with them even on long flights. They are very light and sound fantastic.

Personally i use the K550 (with a modmic) for lan events and they are very comfortable, almost no clambing force and big cushions. I also have the Sony MDR-1R which also are very comfortable mainly because of it's angled drivers and light weight. They both use pleather though so they do get a bit sweaty after some time.

I shortly tried the Shure SRH1540 at a music store, and they are very very comfortable. Can't say anything about long term exposure but i feel those are the most comfortable closed back you can get.
