I appologize if this has been posted before (I did search

), but I'm a sucker for things like this and I saw this ad on TV while down south one weekend:

http://www.midnightspecial.com/

I really enjoyed watching this first video collection and can't wait for the next ones to arrive. Here is the lineup on the first DVD:

Oh, Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison
Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac
Baby I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton
Leaving On A Jet Plane - John Denver & Cass Elliot
Jive Talkin' - Bee Gees
You're No Good - Linda Ronstadt
American Woman - The Guess Who
Let's Stay Together - Al Green
Respect - Aretha Franklin
Space Oddity - David Bowie
Heart of Glass - Blondie
Lady Marmalade - LaBelle
The Joker - The Steve Miller Band
Travelin' Prayer - Billy Joel
Last Dance - Donna Summer

I'm amazed how well all of these groups/singers sound.

I barely remember this show being on but from this list, I like
the diversity of music. I was a brain dead teenager when MTV
launched and watched it alot but wished the music was more
diverse. I especially missed any R&B or Funk music on MTV.
It doesn't seem to be the case here.

This first disc also had appearances by very young Steve Martin and
Richard Pryor. I've seen them have better material but not bad none
the less. How about Wolfman Jack with some of the intro's.

Any of you remember this show?

Ah yes...the Midnight Special. Everyone apparently thinks that MTV invented videos, but in fact the Midnight Special was where I got my first introduction to videos.

Like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"...or the Rolling Stones' "It's Only Rock and Roll". They had some great live cuts too.

It's funny...a buddy of mine and I were just talking about the Midnight Special the other day. I may have to check this out.

I didn't know that they showed videos on this show as well. On this DVD,
it appears to be all live performances.

Videos were around a long time before MTV. For example, Abba started making videos in the mid 70's to reach their fans in places where they couldn't make formal appearances.

I have a lot of fond memories of Midnight Special. Of course though, it actually went on at 1am after The Tonight Show which in those days was 90 minutes. Midnight Special was on Friday and then on Saturday we had had Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. Those were the days.
