From Oct'04:

I'd like to thank everyone who posts here....you guys have been invaluable as I've evaluated and purchased my various Grado headphones.

My question....I read with interest the comments on the original flat pads and how much they improved the SR80 and SR325 sound (each of which I have). I reversed my pad on each of the headphones, and noticed a huge improvement in bass, without a big loss on the high end (to my non audiophile ears). I did notice that the pads were uncomfortable after the reversal.

My question is this....are the flat pads really sonically much different than reversing the bowl pads? I can't imagine that the bass would get much stronger, and I'm relunctant to buy the flat pads if my bowl pads sound similar reversed. Please let me know, and thanks for any insight you can provide.

Headphone store in Atlanta? (looking to audition K701, DT990, SR-325, SA5000)

In typical head-fi manner, I ended up buying used RS-2's instead which set me even deeper down the slippery slope.

If we HAVE ears, yet don't use them to... um... do what they are designed for? And to have a product that supplements this... isn't that the definition of a gimmick?

Because low frequency sounds are felt in a large part through bone conduction, and chest compression, rather than our ears.

Not defending the phones, just pointing that out. Thought it was widely known.
