This is my third pair of E4's (SCL4). The last time and the time before that, it would start out with the left channel getting fuzzy often. It started happening more and more often until it's just too annoying to deal with. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I listen to my earphones about 5-6 days a week for an hour or so a day.

Cleaning is definately your first option. Shure seems to get a lot of 'defect' phones that are simply clogged. Use the supplied tool.
My E4s lost their left channel because the wire near the Y-piece got worn through.
If you can't find what the problem is or you find a defect contact Shure, they have great customerservice.

Let me suggest swapping the nozzles from 1 side to the other. If the problem moves, the fix is easy.
