Bad news everyone. I just emailed Audio Technica about the pads and here's what I got:

That's not the email I got from them today lol

I got a reply from a service tech giving me a part number and the telephone number to call if I wanna order some WS55 pads. Sweeeet!

Hope for the best, expect for the worst. If this is your first time buying a pair of good cans out of the ordinary store brands and other consumer grades, you'll be impressed no doubt.

These are my first full sized headphones. I've had a pair of JVC HA-FXT90s for about a year, which, unless you count the Panasonics I had for a short time before, were the first proper set of earphones I had.

I'm curious. Reading through the thread, I see various impressions of the S500 and the S400, some stating that they aren't that far apart sonically and the S400 is better for music while the S500 is better for gaming and movies. Is the gap between them big enough to warrant the price difference and the lead time due to having to order the S500 from Japan?

Where would I get the ws55 pads from? Can't find them on the AT site and if possible I wanna pay less than the $21 they are on ebay (what is that, £15?)

edit: actually they're £23 to get to the UK

Write to ATH support.

I wrote to them yesterday and got a reply today with information on how to order.

I'm in UK as well btw.

I still like stock pads the best. I don't have to tape vents, which affects negatively the bass texture and also the depth of the soundstage.

I tried stuffing pads and/or taping the vents and they affected the sound negatively for me. It increased the quality of bass while decreasing the quality and ruining the depth. I love the stock pads as well, but I hope the WS55 pads change that.
