No wonder it sounds decent!

Just had a loan of the Immanis, for my ears the Abyss remains ahead in terms of soundstage and slam in the bass. Reading the comments, I would have thought the Immanis to be ahead in terms of technicalities but there is no clear cut. I did not hear more details on Immanis, neither it was more nimble on complex passage.
It pulls slightly ahead in terms of tone accuracy but as I listen to metal and not so much acoustic music it matters less. Also I have Mitch filter and superconductor which both helps with tone in the medium.
Of note highs of Immanis sounded a bit too crystalline in a few occasions so no perfect either.

a well dialed in 1266 TC is indeed hard to beat. I run mine using a tube pre and class D amp combo and love it. i use an EQ (have Mitch filters but prefer my own) and it solves the upper mids "honkiness", reins in the highs, and produces insane bass slam/punch and sub-bass rumbles.

I have the immanis as well; it's a great all rounder with added comfort. it's less picky on amps/source and much much less finicky with fit. I also run an EQ with the Immanis (mostly just a low shelf for added bass, but occasionally a high shelf for some music which is a bit brighter or energetic up top).

head to head, the Abyss sounds bigger and grander and doesn't lose out much to immanis except perhaps in the mid range; with immanis, vocals are a step or two more forward and sound sweeter, with more accurate tone and timbre imo.

to me, Abyss feels like being in the middle of a concert. Immanis feels like being with the artist in a room without borders. both are great headphones. if I anticipate more than an hour of listening time, or at the end of a long work day, I usually reach for the immanis for the comfort. if I have less than an hour, I'd probably reach for the abyss just for the sheer fun and impressiveness of the sound, comfort being less of a factor.

I, too, favor 1266 over Immanis.

It's sort of splitting hairs, really.

Thanks for not indulging in the hype train.

This is exactly what I wrote on a French audio forum as well: Abyss sounds like being at a live show (with good audio mix of course) with a lot of energy in the air while Imanis is more like being in the studio with the artist. I guess choosing between the two is really dependent on what style of music you’re listening too rather than on technical abilities which are excellent on both sides

Agreed. After I've tried Immanis last month, I still prefer 1266 for my music collection (I also mainly listening to metal music). To me 1266 is more engaging, feels more satisfying and lots of fun with that kind of music.

Yea I'm still running that eq, but modded it a bit ie running every parameter except the 150hz peak; in its place I've put a low shelf of 105hz +3db Q0.7 (essentially this is the low shelf from oratory1990 eq).

i tried the rest of oratory1990 eq for the abyss but in the end I still prefer the one u quoted above for mid range upwards. mitch filters are a bit too neutral sounding and I feel it makes the abyss lose the dynamism it's capable of.

Thanks for the link. Might as well ask you your Abyss earcup rotational position? I've been too busy with my various speaker setups but time to get back to Abyss..
