The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

Are the sound changes from the new firmware purely software? Is it like EQ then? or is there something deeper going on?

If you go back a ways in the thread there's a discussion on this. Apparently the decoding algorithms change, and this affects the sound. So its more than just a FW EQ. Its different codec that decodes the audio data, and thus changes the sound. First Ive ever heard of this, but the enlightened ones on here confirm its true

Ah, thanks for the response.

I tried to keep up with this thread, but I apparently missed this discussion all together. I had a feeling this might be it, as decoding algorithms can make a difference to the sound. The X3 for example has noisy decoding for mp3 files, but is very clean for FLAC.

My dx50 is on its way to my place =D
Will test it with my se215, mdr-ex600 and a philips shp8900 everyone has very little flaws
Also, if somebody could give me a really quick tour of the FW sound, maybe just like the mayor dif just to have something to start with =)
Thanks everybody

1.2.8 has great lows, good everything else. no complaints from me (or almost anyone for that matter) it has a really good kick drum 'thump', a little more than other versions.
the 1.2.2 Doc2008 mod is pretty close to the original 1.2.2 with much improved functionality. v2 has a little brighter mids and highs and 'more air' around the vocals. Possibly a little wider sound stage.
I havent experimented with the v5/6 mashup.

I prefer v8 for some music (electronic, dance) and v2 for others (more vocal focused music). I was on v2 for a week, now ive been on v8 for a few days. I cant say i prefer one or the other really.

Can't wait to try this exact combo tomorrow!

What will I expect coming from an ipod classic 6th gen + JDS Labs C5 rig?

Never had my iPod and C5 at the same time, but I can tell you that coming from the iPod and E17 there is definitely some improved detail retrieval and tighter and deeper reaching bass.

My DX50 will arrive tomorrow! I'll be testing it with the ES700s, AD900X, CKN70s, Gratitudes, and the S500s. My set will come with the H3s as well, so I'm looking forward to checking those out.

Unfortunately, my 64GB microSD card won't be arriving until the 3rd. So the 8GB of internal memory will have to suffice until then.

From screenshots I have seen of the DX50 it shows the bitrate of what you are listening to on the main screen. It never has on mine. I have used firmware 1.2.7 and 1.2.8, is it something that has been taken off the later firmware.
