Hi Snoppy112 I have the same exact problem with my R3, I have red model produced in May 2019, bar version. With custom 3.2 there are no problem but with custom FW3.3 if WiFi is open or if you open it after couple of seconds device is restarting itself. When WiFI is off that never happened but also after I saw this fault I didn't use firmware more maybe there are some other problems also.
Thank you very much for the all the effort on the custom FW.

Yep, I'm trying to find out why this is happening... Changes in 3.2 and in 3.3 are absolutely the same.

There's plenty of users here using the R3 as simply an offline iPod replacement and it does that great without needing an external amp. I'm sorry that you got a lemon but you did get it refunded direct from Amazon as I said you could.

I really do own part of this myself. A false level of expectation and a short level of tolerance on my end.
Do I think the R3 is well made and well presented in fit and finish? Yes absolutely.
The albeit brief sound experience was very good.

I need to look deeper at this market and decide where I fit. Do I rightfully expect 10 pounds of features in 5 pound packaging?

Hell, maybe the R3 Pro is worth a look at.....

Firmware 3.1 Custom

3.1 International ver. (from Kickstarter);
3.1 Chinese ver. (from JD and so on, rename the file to r3.upt before updating)

Spoiler: Changes in custom FW

1. corrected translation (Russian and English),
2. replaced the font with a new one by XVortex,
3. customized both themes (some pictures, icons, their locations, etc. were replaced), increased font size in some places. Main screen in second theme is based on the Hexagon theme by Steven Van Geert (see FB HiBy thread),
4. repaired choosing colors sliders in the second theme,
5. added adb (Android Debug Bridge),
6. replaced the index page when connected to PC via Wi-Fi (now always in English), changed sort order (folders go first, then files, in order of names: at the beginning the numbers, then Latin, then Russian) and following file formats have been added: upt, txt, log, and t,
7. added a radio to the top bar and replaced the built-in chinese radio stations (40 stations now), others you can persanally add to radio.txt file and put it in the root of your sd card,
8. all binary files have been striped,
9. optimized all *png files,
10. removed unnecessary files and folders that are not used,
11. extended database limit to 65000 tracks,
12. automatically connecting to known Wi-Fi networks,
13. added automatically start playback after player is turning on (you should add in the root of sd card file key_settings.conf with "autoplay=1" line).

4 months ago, yes... I don’t remember, the last change is the autoplay function after turning R3 on.

Hi!
I also got me the R3 as a nice mobile flac player with skip and fast forward on physical buttons
The only downside is the muddy sound it get from it ... well that was a problem compared to khadas/atom or pdv2

Got the E1DA 9038s yesterday and took me a while to figure out what usb mode i must set (there is no manual for the OS.. this is really not cool that you have to find it out yourself).
But works and also can draw power from the R3.

i am super happy now because the sound is now crisp and crystal clear.
i love the simple and fast interface thats free from android..

so 9038s v2 is an amazing combo for this.
