I just received my Headroom Cosmic amplifier!! All I can say is WOW!!! Paired with my 4P's they are amazing. I also had ordered the 4P to 4S adaptor cord, which luckily arrived today along with my amp. So I thought that I'd first try the ety's without the adaptor cord just to be able to clearly see the difference between the 4P and 4S. Man O man, when I attached that adaptor cord, it was like I had a whole new pair of headphones. After listening to the 4P's for almost 6 months now, without an amp, I immediately was able to spot the many differences and improvments. The overall sound is more full and rich with life. The highs are more precise with more fullness in the dialouge...not to mention more smooth and less harsh. The bass is more accurate and goes considerably deeper than before. And I now notice why some people on this forum have said that the 4P's seem a little tiny in their sounstage. The 4S is simply more realistic and fills in that gap that I now realize, played a pretty significant role in the 4P's soundstage. These are just my first impressions of just two hours of listening time. I'm sure things will improve as time goes on. I haven't had the chance to hear that many amps in my lifetime(I still consider myself a newbie), so I really have no basis in comparing the quality of the Cosmic to the quality of other other high rated amps in that category. Regardless, I can definitely tell that the amp paired with the 4S adds more depth and punch to the music. I was wondering if anyone else has had, or currently has the same setup as I do...would you mind sharing your experience along with any pointers you might be able to offer? Also, there are two switches on the Headroom Cosmic that I have questions about. I was wondering exactly what do the Filter and Process switches do? I was under the impression that there is a feature on most amps that allows some of the left signal sound to be directed into the right signal and vice versa. Is that the function of the process switch? Thanx for the help as well as introducing me to such a dangerous addiction my fellow head-fiers!

Zeplin,

Glad to hear you love your new head-fi gear!!! Hope that you get many good years of satisfied listening on it and your headphones!!

My best advice: now that you have some awesome sounds: FLEE THIS WEB SITE IMMEDIATELY!! Seriously, stay happy with what you have and just enjoy. Unless you've got $20000 sitting around you'll never own the best there is out there, so its best to just read and post without getting caught up in the upgradeitis bug!!!! Unless you can afford it............

I've used the same set-up. The processor can be used to activate the crossfeed. Which I think good with the Ety's. The filter restore some of the highs that may be lost with the processor on. I never needed the filter with the Ety's. Try the processor and see what you think. With HD600's I used the bright or even the brighter setting. The Cosmic is probaly the best all around amp from Headroom. Did you get the Traveler bag? It is a great item.

I would second the recommendation on the traveler bag from Headroom. Everything fits perfectly without wasted space.

for 4.95 I picked up this plastic CD case at Best Buy.

http://www.casedirect.com/cgi-bin/s...REQC=7&UREQD=2#

It slips in under the Cosmic and will hold a dozen CD's.

I am now looking to upgrade my source. So many players and competing formats.

I too have the Cosmic and Ety combo. It does sound awesome. I do not use the crossfeed or filter, but to each his own. I also drive a pair of HD-580s with the Cosmic. I have been very happy with mine.

I always have the crossfeed on when using my Cosmic. With my Etys is about the only time I turn the bright filter off.

Yes! The Cosmic is an awesome little amp. I personally think the crossfeed does wonders for making voices seems more real. I leave the filter on "bright" most of the time
