The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread

I'm finding the HD800 to be a great match with my GS-X MK2.  In fact the combo sounds very sublime together.  No they are not an equal to the BHSE/009 combo but aren't too far behind either.

While I'm sure Paddy is looking forward to listening to my 009 / BHSE, I'm also looking forward to hearing his HD-800 with my GS-Xmk2. I have heard the HD-800's before but it was only for a very short time, and in that time I thought the soundstage made the music sound too distant, but to be fair I didn't listen to them for long enough to get a proper view.

Will you be listening to them balanced with your GS-X MK2?  Single-ended HD800 is pretty good but they are excellent in balanced mode.  Since I repurchase the HD800, I can't stop listening to them especially with the GS-X MK2.  Yes, the BHSE + SR009 is more refined and better but the GS-X MK2+HD800 is pretty awesome in their own right.  Don't forget to report back when you do.

I don't know what connection Paddy is using with his HD-800's cable.

I believe Paddy is considering bringing his DNA, but he won't have that amp til around September. ( I'm still worried that if Paddy did decided to bring his DNA, something might happen to it in transit )
Although I was using my HD-600's with my GS-Xmk2, since getting the LCD-XC's I mostly use those headphones with that amp, however since getting and using the Psvane EL34PH tubes with my BHSE, I'm not listening to my LCD / GS-X that often.
I've found some music I like which is done by Simon Ng ( DJ Transaction ), but ATM I'm only hearing his music via my iPad, in which I plug my LCD's into. If I can find out the way to download his music, then I'll buy the songs I like by him and download them onto my MacMini, then I can hear his songs with my 009 / BHSE.
With me being old school I'm not very savvy when it comes to computers.

After I've heard Paddy's HD-800 with my GS-Xmk2 and his DNA if he brings it, I'll have a good listen then posts my thoughts.

P.S. The whole point in Paddy visiting my place is for him to listen to my headphone equipment, so I don't know how much time I'll be hearing his HD-800's.

While that would be much appreciated Paddy, the only reason I'd be after hearing the HD-800 for longer, is to know for sure whether I'm still not keen on how they sound or not, but supposing I ended up liking how they sound after hearing them for longer, I wouldn't be getting a pair because I don't like how they look, and some head-fiers will know I'm very keen on how audio equipment looks.
Now if Sennheiser were to come out with a high end dynamic headphone that looked identical to the HE-90, that would be a different matter.

I understand and as visual artist aesthetics are very important to me. I happen to really like the look of the HD800 although I do agree that they are a slight bit "over the top" and flashy. I love the look of the HiFi man headphones and was interested in the new HE 560 but then they released the images and man they look like crap! I will never buy a headphone that looks like that. I don't care how good they sound.

I'm considering this for my HD800 and my new LCDX.. Looks like this amp will be good with both?

anyone know if the GSX pre amp can be used to run into a power amp for speakers?

Maybe someone with the LCD X can provide comments. With the HD800 it is an excellence match.  The GS-X MKII also work wonder on my R10 & Qualia as well.

As opposed to...?

Unless I misunderstand your question, that is exactly what the preamp function is for.

Yes,  works like it should..

good good. I thought maybe the pre-amp was integral to the overall design of the amp in general and not specifically as an out for speakers. What rigs (speaker) have you guys used it with? Would you consider it a top notch pre?
