That is no joke. They are the most V-shaped headphone I have ever heard. Lots of treble and tons of bass. Those mids are pretty recessed though.

But if you're looking for bass, they are a goody.

They may not be the most neutral/reference headphone but man I just love my EMU Ebony. Sometimes I just get a craving for something that sounds warm and bassy and they’re perfect for that.

I've been in the headfi world for along while now, and I'm starting to notice something. I'm enjoying my KZ zsr more than my Hekv2 or my hd800 I notice I'd rather listen to my Amiron home or my nighthawk or .. zsr's. I appreciate clarity but what's missing for me is power! When I'm at a concert I feel the music in my bones that is missing with these other cans I have, and Im just finding I enjoy music alot more when the sound is ... Powerful, dynamic.

Sounds like your turning into a basehead like one of us. But the kind of power your talking about where you feel it through your whole bodies bones, well, nothing short of a sub woofer based speaker system is gonna do that I'm afraid.

I'm about to buy a buttkicker gamer 2. I had a sim setup with a large buttkicker mounted to the frame. I loved using it for bass music. It took me back to the back massage I would get in my buddies car with subs. Edit: I HAVE to use headphones, for family and neighbors.

remixed with a nice bass beat. Edit: Nevermind it's bass lite overall. I'm listening to Billy Idol with DD Audio DXB-04 (thanks to those who recommended vintage amps and DD). It sounds amazing. I tried the V-moda to see what the bass does. It's immediately a BLAHH sound compared to DD. The bass was basically no better. I'm not good with describing, but DD clear winner here.

But how does a Amiron Home have more power than a HekV2?

For me personally, the best headphones for bass are Abyss AB-1266 TC. Owned Abyss Diana V2, Focal Clear, Audeze LCD 2 and 3, as well as Hifiman Arya and all of these headphones do something nice for the bass, but nothing delivers on all fronts like sufficiently amped AB-1266. Only listened to Empys in a shop setting and LCD 4s in CanJam, so cannot comment on them with confidence, as I did not own them, however, the bass from them did not feel as controlled as with AB-1266.

Does anyone else find the bass on a lot of headphones to be increased when you lift them off your ears slightly?

The Abyss is known for it's bass and hits hardest when you lift them off your ears at the right distance/angle

I think Abyss explained in one of their recent YouTube videos that if you break the seal between the earcup and your head, you increase a bit of midbass, but decrease subbass. When I lifted my Diana V2s, I noticed the same, music becoming less controlled (since the steeper roll off) but more boomey at the same time.

On a budget, if you're not opposed to EQ, the Gold Planar GL2000 or a modded M1060C are quite capable of slamming your brain around. I'm an OG basshead that has owned the SZ2000's and many others, and I get my fix now from an open back modded M1060C, a modded closed back M1060C, and the GL2000. But like I said, to get that slam, you'll need to EQ them.

Is it worth it to buy the GL2000 instead of the M1060C? Do you mind describing the comparison?

The stock GL2000 is a better headphone than the stock M1060C across the board. However, with the mods I have on my M1060C, they are very close to each other imo. I'd give the nod to the GL2000 for sound stage, mid range smoothness, and detail retrieval. I'd give the nod to the modded M1060C for its low end power, overall smoothness, and comfort. They are both staying in my lineup. Keep in mind, I use EQ with both so YMMV of course.
