Hello guys,
 
I made my JVC SZ2000 purchase with the Fiio e12 portable amp + with the brainwavz thick earpads a few weeks ago.. Pretty satisfied with the bass, but not with having to constantly charge the amp for desktop use, I invested in a Fiio e10k.
 
Now I may be crazy, but the e10k seems to be hitting as hard as the e12's, or perhaps 5% harder, and much clearer.
 
It could be that I'm not making full use of the e12's.
 
Any idea's on how I can set up the two amps to test? The e10k's receive audio via micro usb (plugs into e10k) to regular usb (into pc). You can use a regular 3.5mm but the quality sucks. The e12's connect via 3.5mm.
 
If I plug in one, then plug it out and put in the next, it takes like 30s to get it working. I guess I'll have to rely on my memory.
 
Anyways, what's the best set up for the e12's in your experiences? I'll try to use the e10k's in that configuration. For now I turn the audio volume to about the same with bass boost on.
P.S: You can't use windows boost with e10k's, it changes the interface, so I'm using EQ on VLC.

  On most music players the EQ is a normal band EQ, not a parametric one, so, no idea which Q they use.
On Neutron (a player for Android) I have a parametric EQ with 4 bands, low band, mid 1 mid 2, and high band. For low and high there is a Q, for the two mid there is a width control.
In Neutron I have dedicated the low band and the two mid for low frequencies, setting the low at 20hz with a Q of 0.4, the mid1 at 60hz with a width of 1.2, and the mid2 at 120hz with a width of 2.4. Then the high band I have it set on 9000hz with a Q of 3.
Additionally I use the band EQ of my Xperia, decreasing 400 and 1000hz of 3db each (the ATHWS99 do too much in that region for my tastes) and increasing 2500 of 3db, 6000 of 6, and 16000 of 3.
What do you think of these settings?
I, honestly, still do not understand very well how a parametric EQ works, so I am not sure that my settings in Neutron make sense.
My aim was to make the bass deeper and wider, with more body and more rumble and punch. It kind of worked to my ears, but I wonder if I can do better with other settings.

 
 

 
 
This what your settings look like with a +3 on the low and 2 mids, and -2 on the hi, for the Neutron MP EQ. You didnt say your gains, but this would be the general shape. I don't think the hump at 60 Hz is helping you achieve deeper wider bass.

This gives a huge "spoon shape" with 1 at 0 dB, 100 Hz at -15 dB, and everything from 368 Hz to 5000 Hz at less than -30 dB. Add a bass boost by amp and you're in serious bass business (you can change the gains to adjust the scoop, to take advantage of amp boost and volume, and add more mid/treble as you like). I have found that additive gains (>0) in software EQ can lead to distortion, whereas with substractive EQ it needs more volume but keeps sound quality clean.

That's how it works with the X5+ Cayin. Everything dropped to the floor besides the sub-bass. The Cowon didn't need that much deduction but the FiiO does.

Hi all,
 
I'm currently owning the JVC Xtrême Xplosives HA-FX1X in-ear headphones and I would like to know if the HA-MR77X will sound better than them or will be similar :) (better meaning more slam and quality overall ^^)
 
(btw I can have them for 27€ right now while I bought my FX1X for about 19€ so the spread in term of price isn't that big :p )

Well, I don't like the quality on the X line headphones at all and I don't know what the HA-FX1X sound like but over-ear as well as on-ear headphones with prominent bass have more slam and impact than in-ear headphones with prominent bass by default.
 
It's 2 different ways of producing bass though. Not as much air is being pushed with in-ears and the bass produced feels more in your head so they won't feel as impactful as over-ear headphones.
