I dont see these cans getting much love under all hte hd650 threads, so I thought Id post a thread about them.

They are still by far my favorite sennheiser. Less veil, IMO a more natural sound IMO.
The one thing I dont like about them is the marble look, IMO a bit retro and tacky looking. Aside from that, I still prefer the hd600s as my reference cans over the 650s and 580s.

And "still" one of the best sounding cans Ive listened too.

the 580s dont get much listening from my sennheisers. the 600s are just more classier as a headphone. The build quality and feel of the 600s are just a different level altogether.

I agree, I like the 600s the most of the those three.
However I wouldn't mind the 650s if they were free!
When I listen to the 600s I think, oh gee.
These cans are really meant to please.

Just sold mine this week.

Preferred it over the 650, but Ive decided to join team Grado. The RS-1 is just too tempting.

Gah! I thought it'd be a nice easy sidegrade from the 600 to the 595...I wanted a more forward Sennheiser sound. The recessed treble was starting to bother me. Turns out, after I sold it, a new 595 is not in stock anywhere. At all.

Sigh.

So right now I'm getting the 501 to tide me over, since it's supposed to have good treble and upper midrange. And I'm waiting to re-upgrade until more stuff comes into stock. If I ordered now, I'd have to wait at least a month to get a K701, DT880, or HD595 (my three main options). And I can't go without a hi-end headphone for that long.

Big time seller's remorse here. I would have been better off in the meantime if I had stuck with the 600 and it's slight veil....it's an incredible headphone for the price.

Best of both worlds is the 580 enclosure with the 600 grills

I'm getting lured by all the talk of the K701, even the DT880 a tiny bit, because IMHO the upper end sounds a tad grainy/rough- but there's just something to the fullness of the Senn sound I love. But because I'm getting lured by the other cans, I'm not sure if the 650 would be a smart move. Only way is to try

the 580s still didnt sound too hot. But to be fair my 600s are modded up the kazoo. The headphones just have so much potential

I really like the neutrality of the 600s (vis-a-vis that of the 650s). I also really appreciate the cable rolling capacity of the 580/600/650 line.

There is still lots of 600 love here at Singlepower east.
600smile.gif

The 600 continues to sound best with the Singlepower mpx3's fitted with the 6bx7gt output tubes. The AKG K701 is neck and neck with the 600's though. The K701's seem to work best with the 5687 output tubes and the solid state GS-1. My opinion on whether I prefer the 600 or the 701 best changes almost daily.

I thoroughly enjoy both so I have one of those fortunate win/ win situations.

nice to see the 600 love! The 650 seem a bit bloated IMO. Not as clear and neutral as the 600.

LISTEN ALL, HERE'S THE T R U T H: never never never sell a phone until you have gotten the new one you're considering and have listened to them side by side? if all you have in the bank account is enough for a new pair of phones, you shouldn't be spending it!

I've always dreamed about trying the HD600's, and putting my favorite drivers (650's or 600's) in my HD650's headband, since the HD600's is so damn ugly
