The Fiio X5 Thread

My X5 v1 will not charge from a 1 amp charger, it requires a 2 amp output charger such as a iPad charger.

Strange - I've never heard of a device "refusing" charge because there's not enough amperage.

Well OK, it will probably charge if you leave it long enough.  I never tried.  The charge indicators, light and graphic, do not show charging.

Mine lights up and shows the charging screen even if it's plugged into the front USB port of my computer.

Hey all,

Not sure if this is too off-topic, but I was recently able to take a tour of FiiO's factory. Take a look with the link below:

While I don't have pictures of the X5 first gen at their factory, I do have some pictures of FiiO's newer DAPs on the assembly floor.

Hopefully somebody finds this interesting!

So what's the verdict on DSD files with Fiio X5? I do understand the X5 will convert DSD to PCM 24bit/88.2Khz but when I try to play some DSD64 files they keep sound choppy with those pesky clicks in the background. Should I give up trying? Does it work well with the Mojo?

Thanks

What's your firmware version? I updated mine and it fixed that.

Use my X5 with an E12DIY (OPA627's or MUSES02) or an ALO Rx (original 2009). It's plenty portable with either amp, so why would I upgrade to another DAP when the X5 is a great transport?

I'm using firmware version 2.7 which is the latest one that Fiio released.

What's the maximum capacity anybody is getting out of the X5 since Fiio abandoned OTG support? I currently have over 90,000 files (not lossless) I'd like to shift onto a single player or at least a fleet of more portable microSD's as I work at sea and I'm fed up of picking which iPod I take with me for the next three months (I currently own 3 iPod 160gb's with 60,000 tracks split between them).

I'm a little leery of this 5,800 file limit the X5 imposes. If I iFlashed my iPod I could at least get 40,000 tracks on there before hitting the limit (although I'd still need two iPod's). I was considering buying two 200gb SanDisk microSD's with it, but I don't see the point if the file limit is considerably less than my current solution. How do folk go about sorting their folders on this device?

My other option is the Lootoo Paw 5,000 but I've read the UI on that device is a tad punitive.

FiiO removed the 5800 limit long ago. However, the more songs you add to the media library the slower the device responds, as expected beyond a certain point. From what I recall from other posts the slowdown become noticeable around 20000 tracks.

Alternatively you can browse by folders. My folders are organized alphabetically, A, B, C, D, E, etc., and below that is the Artist folder, then the Album folders with the corresponding tracks. Makes navigation very easy, and the Play Through Folders function keeps the music playing constantly.

Also, IMO, it would be easier to load multiple mSD cards to fit your gigantic library than to carry multiple devices.
