It's a low cost all plastic player... they will probably be paired with poor quality earbuds.
A bassy player should sound very very dark with cheap buds.

I don't think FiiO mentioned that it will all be made of plastic. What makes everyone think so though? @.@ Apple iPod Nano are colorful too but they are no plastic.

Does the external material choice in any way affect the audio fidelity of the device?

(This is a rhetorical question)

The external material is really really important as depending on the material resonance, the amount of decibel increase will vary. Plus the jitter is eliminated and thereby produce enhanced soundwave production not to mention the thermal reflectance of the material will contribute to the amount of cosmic radiation entering the dac portion causing sonic imbalance. Thereby the best material to use for daps is the highly recommended unobtainium.

What chip do you guys think Fiio will use for the amp section for this X1? Looking at history, Fiio normally uses similar chip from their other product line, e.g. OPA1612+ dual LMH6643 in their Kunlun for their X5, and AD8397 from their E11 for their X3. If I have to guess, they probably are going to use the op amp in their budget amp like E6, which is a TPA6130a (127 mW to 16 ohm)

It seems it should match up with the power of the e6. I am kind of hoping we get surprised and its a better chip, something that'll help fill out the sound slightly better.

That is what I am hoping as well. All my favorite amp like RA1 and O2 uses NJM4556A, that is my wish to James Fiio.
