i just received senn 650 but i wasnt expecting them until tuesday since they were supposed to require a signature but there they were waiting on my doorstep at midnight
orphsmile.gif

you know after being a grado fanboy without ever having listened to a senn before it was a real pleasure opening the box and seeing the outer nice headphone box and the headphone themselves are solid and well built. the sound....well i was warned by jahn that i probably wouldnt like it since i enjoyed the grados so much....but you know what...i really dig the senns. the clarity is breathtaking and the phones have somewhat of a vise grip on your head but are comfortable nonetheless...no veil....but more in balance compared to the grados...i really am glad i took a chance on these...
i will see how they sing after the apogee dac gets here(thanks salt peanuts). and then i may order a zu cable...
what a great headphone month!

Congrats! Team Grado and Sennheiser card carrying member here.

There are just times when it's fun to listen to the Senn laidback/warm/euphonic/smooth sound. Yeah, I said Sennheiser and fun in the same sentence.

I thought I remembered seeing your name on Meier's Sennheiser HE90 list though?

haha..yes u did. but in the process of moving to california and starting a new job/studying it proved too daunting a task at the time. however, the 650 is not a bad consolation prize. plus now i have 5000 to spend

although i may kick myself for the opportunity lost. time will tell

Hey, I'm not judging.

Totally understandable. I remembered you and Jahn posting in that thread and I was laughing because you mentioned that you had never heard a Sennheiser before!

Man, I am so close to pulling the trigger on an Apogee Mini-DAC as well. Let us know how it works out for you with your Grados and HD650.

Team Grado and Sennheiser card carrying member here too. I personally digged having the option to switch between the two brands. I have HD-600 and HD-650's and RS-1's and HF-1's and SR-60's and SR-80's. I had a choice for everything. Headphone switching galore.....until I purchased my HP-2's.

Now I find myself listening almost exclusively to my HP-2's. However, I am sure the Senn's will eventually come back into the line up.

Hope your dual team membership suits you well.

"Grad-heiser" sounds just about right. Senn-do is just all about Senn

I hate it when they pull that crap. I had it happen to me also with FedEx.

they left a huge box with nearly 2 grand worth of computer parts in front of the door. I called and yelled at them for a while.

I have a feeling Tom Hanks was also supposed to get a signature for that box in Cast Away.

And it pays to be persistant. I had opporunityies to listen to HD600 on 3 seperate occasions, from soundcard, some receiver, and PCDP, and HD650 once drove by a big huge tube headphone amp with Maranaz CDP and absolutely hated the sound..dark, muddy, uninspiring. Took the plunge and bought the HD600..since I never actually heard it with my system. I was instantly wowed by the clarity, the fullness and the overal dynamics of the sound. I was like What was I listening to the previous times? Realzing that the trick is in the source, since I had Eastsound, which is quite revealing, I find it mates so well with HD600, I hardly ever listen to my grado anymore

Listening to HD600 is just breathtaking, the emotion that it generates is overwhelming at times. I finally understood what the Class A rating means by Stereophile

Another card carrying Grado and 650 member here. Some people have questioned why I have 2 such wildly different phones, but to me it's one of the distinct advantages we have over tradiional speaker system owners. You're highly unlikely to have 2-3 sets of loudspeakers in your listening room to accommodate various music types or moods, but we can easily do so. Enjoy those Senns!
