I've had some time at home to take a few sets for a ride, thanks to my good buddies in the hobby, Guy and Jay. Since I'll be sending the sets back in the next few days, I figured I'd share some of my thoughts since they're still fresh in my mind.
FF x HBB Deuce - I think this set accomplishes exactly what it set out to do. Regardless of the customer service disaster, it's been for so many people, the sound checks the boxes. Without the Impedance adapter, its punchy bass keeps the rest of the FR in line. I'd say that's the biggest standout, it's almost Harman-ish in terms of tuning. Boosted sub bass, boosed upper-mids, and very polite treble. The Bass is way skewed to the sub-bass region, which I much prefer in my tunings, and it's incredible detailed and textured. This is probably the best bass I've heard under $500 up to this point when it comes to sub-bass rumble and tactility. The upper mids and treble really aren't that special to my ears. Fit is a bit weird and shallow, but this might help with the weirdly holographic staging I'm getting. Seriously, the stage size, depth, width, height, the imaging... it's all really wide and spacious (to my ears). That caught me off guard. The Titans are maybe a touch more refined when it comes to the staging in terms of incisiveness, but the Deuce def. has that wow factor. With the impedance adapter of course it takes it up to the next level, maybe even the one after that. It's preposterous amounts of sub-bass but I prefer it with the adapter. I'd hate to call it a 1-trick pony, but it kind of is to me. If I wanted mids and treble to be the start of the show, I'd pick up a different IEM altogether, like the Estrella or the Tea Pro. If I want bass, I'd pick up the Titans, but If I'm going out, then it'd be the Deuce. In a way, it is a specialist set which is fine, but I'd rather listen to the bass using the impedance adapter and that adds bulk and an extra thing to break. Which has led me to the conclusion that I don't need or want them. I know HBB didn't really want the impedance adapter to be a thing in the packaging, but it does take the Deuce to where it needs to be IMO.
Some quick ones;
Hype 4 - I just straight up prefer the Estrella. I think the Hype 4 sounds a bit bland to my ears, but that's just me.
Hype 10 - It's WILD how similar the Hype 4 sounds to the Hype 10... the 10 may have a better stage presentation, but it's not a difference big enough to justify such a crazy price hike.
Prestige LTD - The LTD is a bit more special to me. It's a slow-burn kind of set... at first, it really doesn't stand out as anything special, but as time goes on it reveals itself to be one fo the smoothest listens I've experienced in a while. Everything is handled so well, from the bass to the late treble. I'm not sure it's worth the price tag, but I'd say it's still one of the best all-arounder type sets I've heard, period.
