and many others occasionally.
At this stage of my life, I buy and collect IEMs.
I like IEMs regardless of how they sound.
Sometimes I buy them for how they sound, sometimes because I like them aesthetically, sometimes for the technical solutions they have adopted.
If an IEM has more than one of the previous characteristics, for me it becomes a premium product.
The same goes for having even just one of the characteristics, as long as it is truly at the top in that characteristic.
And to be able to afford the above, I give up many other things (vacation, aperitifs, clothes, expensive car, etc. etc.).
But I don't care.
For me at this moment these are things that have less importance.
I'm gonna be stupidly excited when I get them, like a kid on Christmas morning. This is my first ever hi-fi investment. There's something nice about saving up and getting what you wanted. Keep up your hopes and dream. You'll get there in the end! It's a joy when something is earned over time.
Welcome onboard! hope you will enjoy the ride down the hobby-rabbit-hole!I'm gonna be stupidly excited when I get them, like a kid on Christmas morning. This is my first ever hi-fi investment.
they remind me of Japanese robot-like manga style stuff... they look a bit chunky but quite cool looking!I'm going to share some impressions of the DK3001BD, even though I prefer to wait a few days usually - these only landed yesterday, and to be honest I'm trying to find any possible moment to get them back in my ears... working from home today and I was delighted between online meetings to be able to dip back in again.
I sat down tonight, poured a midweek glass of red wine, and put pen to paper while listening - I often find it easier to articulate my thoughts on paper rather than typing.
Anyway... this is a classic 'stream of thought' while listening, straight to journal...
Initially I was a bit 'hmmm' when they arrived yesterday... they sounded a touch lifeless as the tuning is certainly more neutral vs a lot of what I've been listening to of late - I've learned however many times how important it is to let your ears/brain adjust to different tuning, all too easy to dismiss something in a fleeting evalulation. Once settled, I found myself very drawn to the crisp, detailed, clear tuning - fantastic technical capability, with really precise details coupled with a wonderful deep sub-bass... mid-bass certainly takes a bit of a backseat, but not enough to trouble me, especially as more a sub-bass guy. WIth DK, you get this wonderful contrast of deep sub, which then has the in my opinion beautiful ultra-crisp/airy treble presentation up top, those 4x micro planars certainly doing what they are tasked with. While the mids aren't lush or vibrant, they are absolutely ultra-clear and for me complement the overall tuning perfectly - listening to "Thank U Mum" by St. Germain, the male vocals occupy a large and central position - incredibly distinct... the lower registers of the synths rumble along with again such fantastic distinction, and as the track progresses, the kick drums make an entry, landing with very good impact... again distinct, precise, clear... hi-hats push out to a wide stereo field presentation, you can really hear them extend with again such exceptional clarity - imaging is really fantastic - plus sounds very "authentic" vs the unique wizardry of BCDs which I find take a bit of adjusting to, and I think I possibly prefer 'traditional' configurations - that could be just a right now thing though. Oh and to note also, the quality of the bass is fantastic - bass guitars sound so detailed, incredibly lifelike where you can really hear and almost feel the strum of the strings and a deep rumbling vibration of those lowest registers.
The DK3001BD for me is absolutely a winner, and offers something quite different to my ears vs anything else I've been listening to of late. It of course won't suit everyone - it leans brighter, more technical perhaps than many at this price point - but if you enjoy something that goes for ultra-clarity, super-detailed, with excellent sub extension, clear/distinct mids, and very crisp and airy up top, definitely worth giving these a shot.
If I were to call out an 'issue' so to speak, I would say probably not a set for longer sessions as the clarity and detail could likely lead to some listening fatigue... but that can be said of any set with this sort of tuning.
Can you share how good that impedance adapter is please? When you get the chance of course. I have it in my cart, thinking of pulling the trigger.Another mail call.
This time some adapters:

I laughed harder at this than I probably should've.Oriolus Trailliaiaialala
I saw that lolSorry, I had originally posted a bunch but fat fingered and it only posted the "swinging back in" part without the picture and impressions written out
I have several of those adapters. Very useful.Another mail call.

Happy… I don’t expect much. Let’s say it satisfies me.That's wonderful. As long as it makes you happy.
I'm sorry, but I don't rememberThen why in Potato didn't you accept the challenge when I posted...two months ago, hmm?
I have been at #33 in rotation since then. Tomorrow comes #34...
Cheers!
I agree about vacations.I'm right there with you, sir. I don't spend my money on anything else besides my family, coffee and audio. Vacations are nice, but they're more stressful than fun I feel. Cars are the same - If I was rich, then yeah I'd have a nice Porsche. But I'd rather be able to enjoy my music in a fulfilling way all the time.
If it makes you happy, that's all that matters.
Let's leave it at that. And what about sources? "Loud" chain (amps and loudspeakers)?
Great impressions! I agree with just about everything you said except I am more a midbass guy so I'm REALLY missing that thump. Although pretty much all of the technicalities are great, the thing that really stands out for me is the timbre. I find it to be supremely lifelike and honestly very impressive for a $500 IEM.I'm going to share some impressions of the DK3001BD, even though I prefer to wait a few days usually - these only landed yesterday, and to be honest I'm trying to find any possible moment to get them back in my ears... working from home today and I was delighted between online meetings to be able to dip back in again.

I hadn't thought about it before you said it but yeah I can definitely see how the DK3001BD makes you think of the Pilgrim. The Brain Dance is more of what I was hoping/expecting the Pilgrim to be. Although it's more neutral than I would prefer, the DK3001BD gives a really strong impression of what kind of technical performance you might expect to find in the kilobuck territory. Therefore in my opinion it punches pretty high above its weight in that aspect.Swinging back in.
Echoing @atechreviews and @Scubadevils
Mid-bass is a bit lacking. But, sub-bass is very well tuned and deep/punchy when needed.
I think it reminds me a bit of the Pilgrim but with more sparkle and energy and more note weight so even if it's tuned to be more sub-bass focused, I think it stands out a bit more than the Pilgrim. Initial thoughts - it's not my show room thoughts but I will play around with sources and tips. But, I think it's a very solid to good IEM.
KIMA2 - reminds me of the Moondrop Kato. A lot. In a good way.
