After several weeks of primarily listening to modern jazz, funk, and acid jazz records relentlessly, this week, it's time to get back to my roots, and what I mean by roots is HEAVY METAL! Now I did spend about a half day listening to black metal albums a few days back, but I need to get some aggression out, so I'll be listening out of my Hiby R3 II (naked) and the iBasso DX170 amped type C to type C with the Fiio Q3. I bought an upgraded crystal copper T-C to T-C from Tiandirenhe and it worked great, and sounds great, as the dap/amp pairing provides a huge stage and detailed crystal clear sound with access to both balanced plugs and single ended, while maintaining control of the EQ board on the DX170. First up is Abysmal Dawn's Obsolescence. Great album (though I prefer Phylogenesis). I got the ISN Neo1 and Tri i3 III in the queue box, but up first, it's the Raptgo Bridge, which has quickly become a KING of METAL, and certainly is a top 3 IEM for metal of all sub-genres in my rotation. Hiby R3 II > Raptgo Bridge > DUNU Hulk Pro Mini balanced > AZLA Crystal.

Does number of drivers really matter?
Apparently it is when it's tuned well, because though everyone always says "it doesn't matter the number of drivers", and it's said over and over, it's amounts to nothing but lip service and b.s. because very few TOTL/kilobuck single DD's are on the market, and lead the market. It's all multi driver hybrid tech and all BA (multi BA) tech that gets all the sales, the hype, and the TOTL pricing. So yeah, driver count does matter, as long as it's expertly tuned. If it's not, then no, it doesn't matter, because it's a pile of :poop: anyways.

Did anyone participate/do that AliExpress soccer game/promo? Took some flyers on some of the votes (went back and forth a few times and re-voted and wish I hadn't because I probably would have ended up with that $50 off coupon).

But ended up with enough for $15 off and highly debating the Aful Explorer at $90 after taxes...
Yeah, I played along: got 20USD coupon and some smaller ones. Spinfit W1 and Penon liquer jot got very cheap :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

Today's new toy... Dunu Titan S2! Still playing with it. Nice instrument separation and layering at this price point. Just craving for a bit more sub-bass!

Not really and something like a 25 BA IEM is more likely to be an over-engineered mess.

Senn IE600 and Symphonium Helios are low driver IEMs yet they sound great.

Helios is what I'd call a tech marvel because you would never know this thing is 4BA judging by the large shell and price tag.

Lastly, having an insane amount of drivers means a ton of failure points.
4BA is still a multi driver count, my friend.

In ORB's case 2 drivers are responsible for a big smile in my face you know.........:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Only two drivers in the Dita Project M and the M stands for Marvelous. Sound that is.

Reading this graph, that lack of midbass and low mids + the opposite of 'lack' of 14kHz spike = nope, not interested.
Might be a moment of genius, though, who knows.
This is Crin we're talking about. There never is any mid bass or low mids LOL It's what plagues pretty much every release of his. Every single IEM that I own of his lacks this area, which makes them boring af, but typically very good technicalities, whomp sub bass, and decent air.

These are, the most beautiful IEM I've ever seen in my entire life.. I so wish Penon would continue to make IEMs with this shell..

And for you? What would be the most beautiful IEM you've ever seen?
In terms of aesthetics /Looks it would be this one... imagine I had this picture as my main profile picture in my FB Page for many years on the row......

The new level entry cables of dunu... are beautiful

@Surf Monkey I carry with me to Italy the original F1 from NICEHCK. Soft but punchier, really nice for edm. The layering and stage are not the best...

A dilemma.

In my budget rotation, I was listening to the least expensive in my collection, the CCA FLAs I received some years ago as a freebie with an order. I fitted them with tips that sealed and they sounded solidly good. For a several hours while reading, I got lost in the music, acoustic jazz and vocals, and the highs and lows were clean, thoroughly musical in the all-important mid range and I was grooving away. If I had no other IEMs, I could be satisfied.

Hmmm.....

I then listened to the Kiwi Ears Quintets and the Simgot EA1000s I just received, and they were a leap above them for sure and without a doubt; however, I couldn't help but hear that voice of practicality saying, "why spend more?" Simply put: it is their refinement and depth. The FLAs are musical for sure and very satisfying but the three dimensionality as well as the other differences youse guys wax poetic about in your reviews, simply take the cake. This assumes one can hear these differences, of course, but the problem is, if one doesn't have the hearing and the means of comparison, one would never know.

That's what you guys bring to the Discovery Thread in a nutshell. Again, my thanks to you fellas. My collection has been skewing towards the upper range as a result. Great hobby, eh?

I've felt this a few times. Listening to stuff like the Trio, D-Fi, Piccolo, hell even the Castor Bass, I'm like "man if I wasn't a hobbyist I could stop at this $15 IEM and be very happy". The cheap stuff gets me like 85% of the way there for enjoyment of music. But compared to my EPZ 530 or IvipQ V11, that last 15% is really worth it to me.
