The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2
Oct 30, 2013 at 1:00 AM Post #19,291 of 21,761
I was getting tired of little irritations and such like less intuitive browsing on my x3 and dx50 so I picked up a Sony PHA-1 for my iPhone.  I've only had it a day or two, but I love how it looks, I love how it fits with my iphone and I love the sound.  I kinda wish it was a bit more like the vmoda thing, but that was another tier of expense for something I didn't like the look of quite as much either.

I'm glad sony's hit a solid home run with this to me.  Now to make a little dock thing to charge both at once...

The 2013 music list has been updated:

At some point I should make sub-lists of the 4 and 5 star picks, just to make it easier to view. I'll probably get around to doing it when I compile my "best music of 2013" list.

Last year's assortment, on the off chance someone is interested:

The problem with such lists is that I'll inevitably discover a bunch of awesome music from 2012 after the fact. I could probably do a whole 'nother "top 50" just based on that kind of thing: the top 50 albums from 2012 I heard in 2013.

An alternative approach would be to simply list what I heard that year for the first time and liked, be it new or old. The problem with that however is that such a list would be absolutely massive. Just limiting it to new releases from that year, it's already unwieldy enough as it is.

My latest headphone fixation is, unfortunately, the Edition 5.

I keep imagining it paired with the Calyx M player.

Personally, I think you get far more for your money in IEMs at that price point than full-sized headphones. The TDK BA200, RE400, DBA-02, etc. are all hard to beat for the money. If you have to have a full-sized headphone though, I'd ask if you'd be willing to try modding. If so then get a Fostex T50RP and mod the hell out of it. Otherwise the M50, as cliche as the recommendation is, is still pretty damn solid. I'd also look into various AKG models or their Superlux counterpart.

I also seriously recommend the Koss KSC-35 or KSC-75. They are clip-on type thingies and a surprisingly good.

+1 on the modded t50rp. I've spent hours modding 2 sets and they sounded pretty damn good- I'd say to a level about the hd650 i.e. Solid mid/fi. Couldn't compete with lcd2.2 or he500 though.

I tend to buy things in moments of elevated mood too. Particularly after I finish a big project. I wonder if there is a spectrum...

Oooooooooooooooh.

Spectrum of what? Bipolar disorder? Yeah, there are several different types, and there's even a "lighter" variant of it where yuou really don't get depressed nor manic, but severely ill enough to have it affect your life. Spectrum of shopping? Hmm... Spectrum of spending money when in elevated mood? Hell yeah! Some spend a little, me, I just received another dock-speaker and an Olloclip. Both work superb.

I think it sounds pretty great too.

For me the Touch ID is a ton faster because I had a non 4 number password. It's almost seamless. I could barely type the 4 digits that fast if i did use the simple password.

Ah yes, then it's very much faster. I just used a 4 number password and I think it's about the same speed. Although my icloud/app store password is significatly longer, and pressing my thumb against the sensor is much, much faster and more convenient.

Why is everybody so against Miley Cyrus? Because she's going through a nude/sexual phase? Personally I enjoy her music (actually, wrecking ball and 23 are good songs) and I think she looks good and I don't think she goes overboard with the nudity. Then again, I come from the sexually liberated country Sweden.

First pics of Calyx M on the FB page....

Wow. Really dig that blank back and monolithic look. Makes the DX50 look chunky and stunted
