Are they worth the upgraded price and how do they compare with the similarly priced HE-400's??

Mad Lust Envy on the forum here has both the HE-400 and the AKG Anniversary Edition.  Somewhat different sound signatures, yet he speaks highly of the anniversary edition.  If you PM him, or check out the AKG Anniversary Edition forum, you might be able to glean some more details.

Comparing with another headphone that is much cheaper, since I have the AKG 702 AE and the AKG Q701, I will say that the two are close enough that one can save several hundred dollars by getting the cheaper. Granted the Anniversary Edition has more comfort and is slightly more refined, but the Q701 have easily 95% of the SQ.

I had the regular edition of the  K701 and K702 several years ago and sold them as I thought they were too bass light.

How big is the difference in bass between the K701 and the Q701?

You clearly haven't been reading the AKG K702 AE thread. The "Annies" are basically on a whole new level.... according to some people.
