Are the D600's really that bad? I would think they should at least be better than the D2000...

They are not bad at all... Just not worth $400 (IMO). Fumfie.com has had them priced at $340 for as long as I can remember...

I use them for my D2000 and HD650, and I haven't seen any problems. IMO if you're buying $400ish cans and they get messed up by resting on something like the rocketfish, i would greatly question the quality and the price we pay for this stuff. Yes SQ is important...but it doesn't cost a ton for durability also :)

Yet people still wrap their $800 iphones in big bulky cases...or put leather bras on their sports cars

Seems Amazon is getting desperate with the massive amount of Denon AH-D600 returns.
I got an email today specifically pointing out their used prices for the item, simply because I have looked at the product page before.

Don't remember how they compare to the D2000's, sound wise, but comfort and isolation are great and better than the D2000. I've posted this before and I'll say it again, they are a headphone with a fun soundstage, maybe not something you would want for critical listening, but certainly perfect for the workplace or a relaxation headphone when the wife is trying to watch TV. They do have detail, however, and do have that deep bass extension with a U shaped sound signature to them. One user here compared them to the D5000 but with more detail.

Amazon reviewers seem to like them. Even Amazon Japan reviewers like them.

There seems to be some real hate for the Denon AH-D600 on this thread, perhaps you should jump over to this thread and see what the users have to say, good and bad. Also, I should add, if you buy them from Amazon as a seller (or Amazon wharehouse deals) you can always return them if you are dissatisfied.

And before anybody quotes a graph, let me say right off, trust your ears, not a graph

I don't see how it's a problem, its shaped that way so that headphones don't accidentally roll off. It's not pointed, it's curved and its smooth and not "pointed" or jagged or sharp or anything that would damage the HPs

The weight of heavier headphones causes the grooves of the stand to dig into the headband. It doesnt affect functionality, but it'll affect the asthetics and resale value of some headphones.
When I first got the M-100's, I left them on the stand overnight; only to find that it had dug into the padding a bit(35 days later, those marks were still there). I'd rather leave my T1 and LCD-2 sprawled over my desk before placing them on that fangled contraption
