Is the lcd-3 that big a jump over the LCD-2? Tempted .. Can't decide between the lcd-2 and 3 even at twice the price..

I own both. The LCD-2 is a bit darker but the LCD-3 beats it in transparency and imaging. I purchased and LCD3 last spring and haven't pulled out the LCD2 since then.

If you can swing the $400 difference, I would recommend the LCD-3.

$500 is the diff. Hmm. Thanks for the impressions.

Is there a difference between leather-free and leather sonically or is it just a preference on materials for other reasons (not wanting to kill animals, or breathability, etc.)?

No sonic difference and you probably wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference in texture. The Leather free pads a a little bit thicker with more memory foam.

The LCD-2 prices are solid.
I thought if they offered the LCDi4 at $1200 would have been very tempting. At $995 it's a steal.
Also the LCD3 is a magnificent headphone. I would highly recommend it.

Can you explain reason why I’d do open IEM? I already have lcd3. Seems like open iem would be redundant.

Mainly for portability. The Audeze iem's can easily be driven by an iPhone (with the cipher cable). I use my iSINE 20 when I walk the dog in the morning. I also bring it with me when I travel - I use it in lieu of a open back when I get to the hotel room. The i4 is like having an LCD4 in your pocket.

Granted it is a luxury item and you can just as easily find a much cheaper regular iem for travel and portability but it won't likely have the open sound.

How close are i4 to lcd4?

I recently got the Stellia for portability but admittedly sometimes I can’t travel with them for work.
