At the price of the X1, I prefer the K7XX.  If you can spend a bit more, I prefer the X2 to either.  (YMMV)

^ @ 169 dollars?

Yeah.  The K7XX is $199 new.  For $30 more, I personally think it's a better choice.  The X2 is $299 and I prefer it to the K7XX.  I don't know that it's 50% better than the K7XX but if you can afford the jump up (or find a good deal on one), I do prefer it overall.  Not everyone agrees with me on this one tho.

As always, the best way to tell is to listen for yourself.

Thanks for the replies everyone. So is it necessary to change out the pads on the 150? What would people recommend as replacement pads?

It's not necessary, no.  But it's a nice bump in comfort, if you feel like you would like that kind of thing.

ya, really might as well spend that extra $40 imo to get either the he-400 used or k7xx new or hd600 on sale.

Gemini DJ HSR-1000 for $43 with free shipping:  http://flash.newegg.com/Product/9SIA10V14N8844?icid=WP_0_03272015

Great headphone at that price. Same driver as the takstar pro 80 just a simple rebrand. Pair it with a pair of brainwavz hm5 pads and they are fantastically sub bassy headphone.

Not sure if it's a temp sale either but Amazon has em for $44. Better option for prime members.

Nice find!  Here is the link to them on Amazon for $44.50:  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006Y2BI04/

The momentum on ear sound ok, but very uncomfortable to wear due to the small earpads. The earpads make my ears too itchy for a long listening section. I highly recommend you to go to a local Best Buy store and audition them out first if the sound and comfort work for your likings before making a decision.

My wife also complained that it got tangled in her hair all the time.  The split band looks good but it's a tangle-magnet.

There Is no chance HD800 will cost less.
1. It is made by hand, it costs a lot to make.
2. They will be screwing all of their customers who paid a full price.

How would they be screwing customers? Headphones aren't collector items one buys as an investment.

They could be, if they were part of a numbered, limited edition run. However these clearly were never created or marketed as such.

You'd think that after being manufactured for this long, economies of scale or improvements to the overall process would have kicked in, and we could see a price drop. But perhaps the hand constructed nature of these 'phones make that unlikely
