The problem is, as Americans, it's very hard to save up for something big. To satisfy our consumerism urges, we have to constantly buy things to fill that void within ourselves. A lot of times it doesn't even matter how expensive something is, but really just that we are getting something new. Also it's heavily dependent on the deal or sale, as the illusion of saving justifies our needless spending.
