Are the sennheiser momentum over ear a good buy for $199?

check out http://camelcamelcamel.com to view price history for stuff on amazon. They even have plug-ins for the major browsers. When youa re on an amazon page you hit the Camel button (installed with the plug-in) and you see a price history chart. Great way to get a feel for a "good" price.

Are you sure you don't mind the on-ear for $120? I've never seen the over-ear below $150. At $200, the over-ear are tempting. At $150, a great deal, if you can get on with the small ear pads.

There were over ear refurbs for like $116 or so not too long ago on amazon but $150 is lowest they have been new. Was tempted on possibly getting a pair myself but I am perfectly content with my takstar pro 80 I got not too long ago from aliexpress. Though the Soundmagic hp100 for $100 did look tempting.

Historically, $199 seems not bad, did get down to $150 as noted, but not often. It does seem that every site I see them at now is selling them for $199, so I'm guessing it's no rush to grab one.

Are over-ear Momentums better than HD 598s in sound quality and comfort? I must mention that I'm not too concerned about bass.

over ear momentum is really an on ear fit for most people, so comfort is iffy. personally i found em uncomfy, but they do have real soft leather earpads and extremely lightweight, so i guess it depends on the user. i wld recommend tryon em if u can or gettin from a place w a good return policy

This was partially why i said the Momentum in that price range were not particularly a good deal (even though i made a mistake about the type): I recently bought a pair of HD598 and found it a huge deal when they went at $99 recently... these are really an awesome pair for the price.

That's good to hear. I bought the HD598s for $99 too, but it was an impulse buy (in fear of it running out of stock). The package hasn't been delivered yet, but for some reason I'm already double guessing myself and wondering if I should get a pair of M50x or Momentums instead. Too bad I missed the $135 M50x deal because I was in two minds about the Blue color. :frowning2:

I read more about it and it turns out they use real leather in the Momentums, so that helped me make up my mind - I'm not getting them...
