Well, last night fellow member Nightfall and I had an entertaining little guys night out. After a few beers and what must be the single biggest burger I've ever eaten in my life at The Redcoat Tavern in Birmingham, MI, we drove a couple of miles down the road to Ferndale. There, at an intimate little venue called The Magic Bag, we took in a great performance by The Cowboy Junkies.
I don't know their material well enough to go into a set list of any kind, but they put on one hell of a show. Margo Timmis is a great performer, and also had a nice rapport with the audience. Her brother (don't know his name...sorry) is also a wizard on guitar...it was one of the more impressive live performances that I've heard. Their chosen music was a lot more upbeat than I expected, which was a nice surprise.
Another nice surprise was that we had a warm-up act - Tracy Bonham. If you're not familiar with her, I suggest opening up Rhapsody and playing tune #1 from her most recent album. I would describe her as a more talented, violin-playing Alannis without the requisite attitude. She's a VERY talented lady, and she puts on a very nice little live show.
I'm really beat today, as I got very little sleep...and I've got to go to a Detroit Tiger game tonight. Can't wait for tomorrow...to sleep in!!
As Jeff knows their work much better than I, I suspect he'll have more to say about their set list. All I have to say is that it was a great way to spend an evening.
