Would the battery still be okay after 3400hrs? NPAudio mod would be nice but essentially looking for a second travel/ carry DAP. Would be nice if I could only upgrade battery to 3200 mAh.

Few qualities do like over ZX300- bigger screen, better SQ. Size wise doesn't seem a huge drastic change, do enjoy how easy ZX300 pockets, imagine WM1A would be similar.

Thanks for all the thoughts above. I do own 1ZM2, enjoy it much but mostly used as a home portable. Have been reading others comparisons of owning both ZX300/WM1A. I listen solely using walkman music player, no streaming hence the love for the first gen.
After 10.000+ hours my wm1A battery still lasted for about 14 hours

These Sonys are so strange. All I wanted was NW-WM1A the last three weeks. Then I listen to the NW-WM1Z and fall in love!

I think 1A size is similar to to ZM2 except it’s a little bigger, since ZM2 look more compact. Also since it’s mostly plastic, 1A to me feels kinda like a toy, given the weight. It’s a glorious toy nevertheless 😄

If you own a 1ZM2 the WM1A will be a nice downscale for handling, and feel like an empty shell for the weight difference.
My progression was:

ZX300 > WM1A > WM1Z

but recently I got myself a ZX300 again as a smaller, lighter player to up my listening time when the weight and value (dropphobia) of my 1Z make me think twice about using it.
I actually really like the ZX300 and find it totally satisfying, and end up not listening much to my 1Z, although the 1Z is a keeper for years to come. It is only because I've experienced the higher-tier sound of the WM series that I don't just keep it and sell the 1Z.
The 1A has clear improvements over the ZX300, but this was when the custom firmwares were just being released so I don't know how much it may have closed the gap. From my experience with owning various Walkmans there is still a substantial factor of hardware.
There is a lower priced Nayparm mod for the ZX300, which could give you the smaller dimensions, new battery and some SQ improvements.
Noticed your progression through some old posts - re-read a few and about getting ZX300 again... my progression was Hiby R3Pro> Fiio M11+> WM1AM2 > WM1ZM2.

I'm a passenger on the same boat about weight/value (dropphobia) of 1ZM2. Getting ZX300 refurbished few months back been really enjoying pure sony music app, no going through debloating. Essentially using it same as yourself for a travel/pocket/ easy carry player. Which think i'll hold on to it and wait till either used 1A NPAudio pops up or a mint condition. Better yet would be Sony introducing M3 as pure music player going back to Sony OS - wishful thinking in a time of music streaming being popular.

Similar, mainly just height difference - depth/ width is not off by much. Was a shock at first weight difference between 1A - 1Z, use to the heft of the gold brick now.

Thanks everyone again for opinions, true OG walkman gentlemen. :beerchug:

I’ve settled happily with 2 NPAudio modded players, a ZX300 and a 1Z and I imensly enjoy both of them. The 1Z clearly sounds better but the ZX300 is oh so much more convenient while still sounding really good. Both with WalkmanOne fw

I've settled with my NPAudio modded WM1A, DMP-Z1 and NW-A5. The A55 gets used fot vommute or lightweight hassle-free travel

been playing this release nonstop for the last month or so , if anyone here loves early 80s (discipline/beat/3 of a perfect) KC this is a superb recording

they released both concert recordings (they played afternoon/evening shows with the exact same setlist) which were the base of the 1998 'absent lovers' cd release

now AL is very, very good but this release is even better , it is a 24/48 recording and the sound is beefier and more enjoyable (imho)

plus you get both shows in full glory

if there are any KC fans that would love to get/hear this in glorious FLAC quality , pm me and we will work something out

cheers

I've been looking for a line out cable for my NW-A55 (haven't moved up to a 1Z/1A...yet), and I saw a 22 pin WM Port to USB C cable on aliexpress. Any chance anyone here has tried one of those? It's only $25, so I'm thinking of giving it a go and seeing if it works.
