I would describe it as being pretty holographic...so both wide and tall (for headsphones). I haven't tried a huge number of cans, so there may be some like Senn HD8*** that are even more so, but it is the main reason I chose them as my daily drivers. Beside the tuning, I think it is probably the angled drivers which contribute to this sense of space in the soundstage.

Yeah, I considered but wasn't able to try the Z1r's. However, I was a bit concerned about durability, and cost of replacement pads, etc. which is a strong point for the Beyers.

I keep only 1 set of cans now for simplicity...not because they are the best, but very good enough and will last and/or be repairable. To each their own tho

Since you mentioned the T5.3 I must also say that the Drop/Beyer 177x has impressed me a lot. Especially with some EQ running balanced out of Aune S9C.

Ultrasone is difficult to get a hold of in the US. Not a lot of shops have them available to try and there aren't many good reviews of them in English. The only people who have them are those that bought them blind off of Amazon. I would love to hear the Edition 8 EX someday though.

I also highly recommend T5.3, which is one my favorite headphones of all time. I have it since 2021 and these were my first "expensive" headphones. Before that I was using Sennheiser HD 569. At first I didn't like them much, I found them piercing in the upper mids/low highs and wanted to get rid of them, but then I tried to swap pads and that did the trick for me. Dekoni Choice Suede pads made these headphones pretty much perfect (smoothed the sound, increased soundstage, improved imaging and made them extremely comfortable).

Over the years I had many closed-back headphones, including D9200, Radiance and Bokeh, and I found T5.3 to be overall better than every one of these.

Are you talking about the Beyerdynamic t5 3?
