Hi everyone, off-topic question (sorry).

Is there a company (such as maybe Moon Audio) who can mod a pair of headphones (such as the DT 880s) which have a hardwired cable so that you can use a detachable cable with them without being under any obligation to purchase an expensive, esoteric cable? I don't believe in expensive cable upgrades but would like to have the ability to use a detachable cable with my headphones.

The only issue with these custom services, BTG, Peterek is they aren't the quickest. They have real jobs outside of modding and get tons of orders. They normally take a month + to get the services.

Of course I'm not going to start discussing if expensive cable are worth it.
But removeable cables also have cons, for example a loose connection, which can't happen at a hard wired system.
The money to change fix wired cable for several times will be much less than to do a cable mod.

Do you have experience with a soldering iron? From what I have heard, doing the detachable cable mod is rather easy with little soldering experience.

Might save you some bucks and some waiting time.

Unlike speaker, where the most sound shaping part is the driver, when you go to headphones, the whole driver environment is very importing.
Talking about the housing, filter inside and ofc the pads.
I bought used dt880 in bad condition sounding terrible, but I figured out, that there where 770s pasd on it.

Ofc you can try around with pads, but pads are Extremely sound shaping, taking about several db's of elevation or reduction.
Yes, you can find nice pads, but the balance between good bass response and nice resolution in mids and highs is not easy.

When I tried different pads, I was like "wow" at the beginning, but when going back, I knew this was the tight pad.

Saying all this, the most important thing is you you like your own headphone, and if whis is the case with a different pad, you should keep it

I agree with you. Having tried some 'pad rolling' in the past, it always seemed like I liked each headphone with their respective stock pads the most. However, tube rolling on the other hand... I definitely had more success with that.

You have to be extremely careful when soldering on DT880 drivers. The three tabs on the left are just press fit into the plastic and can be pulled out very easily once heated with the soldering iron.
If you do pull one out by accident, you will have snapped the voice coil wire attached to the bottom of the tab and that will render the driver useless. But, if you are lucky enough, there will be a few mm of the voice coil wire left sticking out so it could be attached to the middle tab.

The package also says it's 600ohm (but doesn't have that "Audiophile 600ohm version" sticker). And now i worry if they sent me 250ohm instead of 600ohm version or is it just the new revision or something... What do you think?

Well sadly only Black editions have this serial number plate inside

So what amp and/or dac do you have? What is the max watts it can put out @ 600 ohm? The difference between 250 oms and 600 is HUGE.

I had Fostex HP-A3 in the past but now I ordered o2/odac combo specially for my new DT880, o2 must put 88mw to 600ohm, I hope it will arrive soon

So, I used my multimeter and 200ohm mode didnt show anything (but measured 35 ohm on my 40ohm headphones). The 2k ohm mode says it's 0.560-570 kOhm that i guess is about 600ohm right? Sorry i'm a noob at this.
