So here I am again..trying to compare dt880s to another headphone...
So the koss esp950 are 599.99 new shipped from koss.com...
Are these stats really a step up from dt880s?...
I need persuasion to get/not get them :D

  that was very direct :D
Can you give me some insight? Like if you've heard them what were ur impressions?

I've owned them. Clarity, period. Recable em and run a Stax amp and you're pretty much endgame.

Fer wot it's wurth,
I prefer my Stax SRS-2170 over my DT880, more clarity, more air, more transparency, etc.

I know they're not Koss, but they are (obviously) electrostatic.

So I'm finally done putting together this setup. Took me several weeks to get my RMA DAC and a few  days to finish my bottlehead crack. There are no words to describe the sound...

>.< I'm so jealous. The Bottlehead Crack is going to be my next upgrade for sure.

You live in the OC? I'm down here in San Diego. Let's organize something :D I got a winter break coming up in two weeks at SDSU

Hmm I wonder... how the EPS950 compare to the T90? I wonder how the reCable of an Electro stat differs from a Dynamic... that said I also wonder if my NFB 10ES2 would be able to drive an eltro stat q.q

Not a chance of your NFB 10ES driving electrostatic's... Totally different beasts.

Hey guys, what do you use to amp these? According to many the mids are a bit recessed and a tube amp will bring them out / make the phones a bit more fun. I haven't looked into tube amps and what not before since I've only tested the sub $200 price range. I'm using DT 770 Pro 80s right now but I think I want to make the jump to mid-fi.

Depends on what impedance model you get. There are three (32, 250, 600ohm) and the 600ohm is said to be the best but the differences are minuscule and you'll barely notice it. But then again the 600ohm is the hardest to drive, you'll need a powerful OTL amp to drive them. I'd recommend the 250ohm, specifically the Pro version.

Beyers and tube amps are a wonderful combination. They just go so well together. If you already have a decent source I'd say get yourself a LittleDot Mk2 or any affordable tube amp. I am currently using my 880's with the Aune T1 (DAC and amp) and it has abundant power to drive them.

Yeah I'm getting the Pro 250ohm. Also, what qualifies as a decent source? I use a TASCAM US-100 audio interface right now if that fits the bill. Also, that LittleDot Mk2 is nearing the price I'm paying for the headphones currently. Are there any more frugal options available / will most tube amps do the job well? From what I've read on Head-Fi my understanding is that the 880s are picky when it comes to amps.
