The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread

I noticed that in the 80 ohm version which is why i mentioned the aggressiveness on my review. The 250 doesn't have anything that annoys me in that area.

contact beyer on facebook, they reply instantly

I tried facebook also, setting out the repair circumstances and requesting email of contact person to deal with repair. My message got deleted almost instantly. Looks like they are more interested in making a sale than doing repair.

Guess it is simpler to buy another pair altogether

Just traded zowki for his pair of Beyer dt250 80 ohm and I'm pretty impressed. The timbre and tonality is so natural natural and organic. I'm really surprised these don't get more mention on here.

PM them. Don't post it on their wall

I bought mty D7 250 / 250 ohm two years ago, in my opinion it's a very balanced headphone, really understimated and a real bargain for its price. Aesthetically it is so ugly that I like it.

The utilitarian looks may be a good part of the reason these phones are ignored. The 250 Ohm version is also not generally available even though it's mostly superior to the 80 Ohm. Odd bit of marketing from Beyer, really.

...when was the last time I posted here?  May?

Despite the 250ohm impedance, I have been using my DT250 sans power amp for the past few months.  Even with my scaled down Audirvana Plus -> AQ Dragonfly setup these Beyers are still the cat's pajamas!  Scale and dynamics are somewhat diminished, but the resolution and tonal balance remains so I'm certainly more than happy running a simplistic rig.  And to think of the multiple times that I had spent over $1K on a single headphone... yeesh.

One more "toy" gone from the living room -- the missus is happy. :)

My Beyerdynamic DT250 250 ohm arrived today and they sound way better than the DT250 80 ohm. They must be using different drivers, better cup dampening, and/or the drivers are tuned differently because the sound difference is so big. I sold my DT250-80 a few weeks ago so this is my comparison from memory.

- The DT250-250 has a more smoother and neutral frequency response. No annoying midrange resonance that the DT250-80 has.
- The DT250-250 has significantly better bass texture and accuracy. The DT250-80's housing would vibrate quite a bit more and doesn't sound as clean in the bass.
- The DT250-250 has more treble sparkle and an overall more smooth treble. The DT250-80 lacked some upper treble and whatever treble was present was a little bit harsh.
- The DT250-250 is harder to drive and less efficient than the DT250-80. They still good out of an iPhone for low dynamic-range pop and electronic music but for higher dynamic range jazz and classical an amp is a must. I'm using a Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII which provides more than enough volume. The DT250-80 doesn't really need an amp if you're using them straight out of an iPhone.

If you are a DT250-80 user and already enjoy them, I urge you to upgrade to a DT250-250 and get an amp (Fiio E12 is a good choice) because they are so much better.

My EQ settings for DT250-250. Based on an inversion of the frequency response graph from http://headphone.com/ and http://en.goldenears.net/GR_Headphones/10680

It sounds more neutral to me with this EQ, so I'm using it full-time with my DT250-250.

I wouldn't take the graphs 100% seriously by the way. Remember a different site will measure the dt250-250 differently depending on the measuring method. I suggest that if you do use eq, use this to get an idea of the balance.... Ignore the last few frequencies on top though since the compression on the youtube videos don't go that high.
