Don't know about gain switching, because my amps doesn't have that option.
But I do know that my tube amp (high and powerful gain) gives a so much better overall sound than my Cmoy desktop amp did.

I did buy DT150 few days ago - still burning in. But even after 2 days of burn in these cans sound very pleasent. Sound has its authority. Heights are smooth,  clear. Absolutely no grain in sound. I like them more than T5p, T70, DT770, DT990. And even other hi end models are much more fatiguing. DT150 are just great. Spacious and has truth and authority in sound.
I prefere them with my SS than my second tube amp. They show differences in amps sound signatures even more clearly than T70.

After my previous post in this thread, I bought a SS amp of good quality. The DT150 is even more enjoyable on that one than on the tube hybrid.
So I agree with Synthax that amps do make a difference with the DT150.

I missed my DT150, it is nostalgia. Beyer do seem to have some QC issues with their DT series though. Both my DT150 and DT250 were purchased new but both went into problem within 3 months. If you happen to get a good pair I say hold on to it.

I have read somewhere that listening on low gain is much preferable, but maybe not for DT 150. This headphone perform much better in high gain (FiiO E11): it's like a painting with 3D realism, whereas in low gain it's just like a normal flat painting - useful for some purpose I think.

Anyone have tried DT 150 with FiiO E12 or JDSLab Objective 2 amp?

On my old Fiio E17, medium (6) gain was best.

On my O2 amp it will distort in the upper third of the volume control on high gain and boosted bass eq. This is into absolutely ridiculous SPL though; honestly usable as small speakers at that point.

Oddly enough high gain on the O2 sounded better until I got my latest DAC (Musical Fidelity V90-DAC), now low is much better - probably different level/impedance of input signal.

So in my experience basically it varies and go with whatever sounds best to you

Thanks for the reply :). It seems that this headphone likes medium to high gain despite not showing needs for it.

How much is the sound quality margin between E17 and O2 using DT150?

Just checked again on low gain mode: while it provides flat and easy listening sound, high gain mode has punchier and realistic. It is quite difficult to recommend low gain mode for listening to music. (maybe it is good for recording purpose).

For me it was pretty big, even using the E17 as a DAC into the O2, definitely an upgrade I'd recommend

Well just got these beasts , mine came in a generic white box .....so , good to see the money is going into the business

These are nice and warm , would have liked more sub-bass like its younger brother 770s but still excellent and very refined , seal was tricky though ....I might have to bend the headband to make them clamp more , they are very deep and comfy though and are built like a tank , love them so far !

Just eq it up a bit (I recommend EqualizerAPO), they respond very well to it

Yes did that but I'm running it flat , enjoying the mid-bass for once , the bass presentation is very reminiscent to my 650s ..love them flat , for the sub-bass I have my 770s :)

Had some questions regarding the 6 Pin connector , I am not going to keep them plugged in , after using it they go to my stand so my main question is , is the connector robust enough to hold up against frequent connections , lets say twice a week I'll use the 150s , thanks !
Let me know if my explanation was poor , reading it again and seems like its not very accurate , any ways if you understand then thanks in advance

This should give a good idea
