In this thread, we will attempt to name the best sounding players in each price range to try to narrow it down for people who ask what sounds best.

$0-100 range - 2GB YP-T9 and 4GB Meizu M6 (and 1GB 1stGen iPod Shuffle)

$100-200 range - 8GB Trekstor Vibez

$200-300 range - 16GB iAudio 7

$300-400 and up range - Kenwood players ftw

Who's next?

The Microsoft Zune and the Cowon D2 fit into the 1-2 area. The Cowon X5 and Zen Vision:M, 2-3.

True enough. One person might like cold, analytical sound, another, warm, cushy beats. So we will build a list of DAPs worth mentioning, so that new person might go out and further research a few models that have been recommended.

Haha, don't I know it, but I figured price range would be a less complex way to narrow it down for people who make all the "best SQ" threads.
