Originally I had cheap Sony earphones that came with my MD and they simple were not loud and clear enough -- even by portable standards.

Now I have been using my Sennheiser HD-497's as my portable phones -- however the wire is simply too long and the headphones are simple TOO BIG.

I love the way it sounds with my MD and all and the volume and clarity is perfect.

However I really want smaller earphones that are close to as loud and as clear as my Senn's. Are the KSC-35's the best choice considering I do not really want to spend more than $30?

What are the stats i need to consider to compare with my senn 497's with the ksc 35's or any other potential earphones to see if they will be as loud and as clear as my senns (or close)?

can someone help me out here? thanks

KSC-35s are beautiful sounding but very open, I would buy the closed PX200 because of this site's recommendations and that precise Senn sound.

If it's a Sony MD, the Sony eggo D-66 is generally considered a good match.

Out of the three recommendation so far, I would go for (from best to worst)

D66 -> KSC-35 -> PX200

I really couldn't get on with the Senn sound

YMMV of course...

MDR-E888 anyone?

for your budget of us$30 go for the kcs-35. they're great little clip-ons.

of course if you like that senn sound, the mx400 or mx500 senn earbuds are also great, and cost less than us$20.

Yes... in that case, I second redshifters recommendation... grab yourself a pair of Sennheiser MX400s (I think of them much more favourably than the PX200s

)... bargain for the cost!
