On that note.

From the critically maligned Lionheart LP. One of the lesser known of Kates works and one of my all time favourites. The range here vocally, visually, conceptually and the use of music to tell the story of an actor for me was a focal point for Bush's work. In this one song you can clearly see where she hit a pivotal point in her storytelling which was to take her into her most successful period.

I completely agree. Lionheart is my personal favorite of Ms. Bush's albums. I remember buying it only after hearing one of her songs for the first time. I really did not know anything about her or her music and it was absolutely amazing. It was like my eyes had been opened to a world I did not know existed. That sounds a little melodramatic I know but it really was transformative. The lyrics were poetry, her voice was absolutely magical. The only other artist I could really compare her to is Peter Gabriel but her voice takes her to high places Gabriel can only aspire to.
She is an Amazing artist.

In addition to Kate's wonderful voice, I particularly love the exceptionally mellow, warm, laid-back, bass-guitar lines on many of the tracks on the 'Lionheart' and 'The Kick Inside' albums - something which seemed to fall by the wayside on her later albums (even though I like various tracks from those later albums). These warm bass-lines underpin Kate's cooler vocals superbly.

Eva cassidy is favorite of many too . the kind of control and power she got is unmatched !

Yeah, she belts-out the track 'Nightbird' (studio version), but I can't find that on youtube.

She also shows her vocal power on this track, with Chuck Brown:

Don't know for sure if this one has been posted before. Heck, I may have even posted it. I was watching a wonderful BBC documentary this evening on PBS about The Carpenters and it made me somewhat nostalgic. Though not one of their biggest hits it's always been one of my favorites. Written by Henry and Felice Mancini. In 1983 the world lost perhaps the most beautiful contralto voice ever known. RIP Karen.
