THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers)

You feel that a "woman" this definition, is based on age.
I'd have to suggest to you that lifestyle practice, a sense of personal responsibility, and wisdom, would rate a female as a woman, not age.
There are a lot of 40 yr olds, both male and female, that are not adults, they are just 40.

Their ages are sufficient imo. But they qualify as women regardless of the critieria you choose, imo.

Also, it would be impossible for you to know for certain if ariana is a better live vocalist then taylor, as you say you have not seen ither "live".

Probably true. Since I've been listening to music for quite a few years, I'd like to believe I can tell the real from the memorex and the processed, even if it's just a recording of a live performance. But maybe I can't.

And yes, the industry , the music industry, the pop music industry, is infected with the habitual use of auto-tune.
10 Yrs ago, it was used to help correct "pitchy" singers, but now its become an effect that is applied to vocals like "chorus" or " delay" or "reverb".
Most female artists, the most popular, like Katy, or Beyonce, or Alisha Keys, will sing through it during live performance.

If this is so, then how are you able to tell if they are good singers at a live performance?

Let me tell you how you separate the real singers from the pretty faces.......its like this. Whenever there is an unfortunate devastating situation that harms many people.....like an earthquake, and the music industry creates a show to raise money.......and they need singers to perform live.....you'll note that all these girls are nowhere to be found, and this is because, this is raw, live, and cant be cheated, and they can't do it.
This is why you'll see Paul McCartney, or Elton, or Billy Joel, or someone like Barry Manilow, or a country artist.....as they can actually take a mic and a piano, and do it.
But these girl?....They have to have a slew of sound men and vocal processing to hide behind.
Unfortunate, but that is how the music industry works, since illegal downloading destroyed the music industry.

I agree that piracy is a problem. But would not agree that the music industry has been "destroyed". The old model of the music industry was quite restrictive, and also full of graft and abuse of the artists. Adapting to new technologies has been difficult for some. But it has been liberating for others.

I can't really comment on the other stuff above since I don't watch regular TV, and haven't seen most of the benefit shows you're referring to, except a few clips here and there on YT. The last one I saw though on YT was "One Love Manchester", which featured Ariana, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Little Mix, among others, which seems to run counter to some of your comments above. I believe you can still watch the highlights of the show here...

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlJ6mcpK7uj5H4yrww4S46h370WTWYTwQ

I think the clips are in reverse order, and should begin with the last clip on the playlist (ie Marcus Mumford's "Timshel").

They no longer want talent, they just want someone that can fake it, and do the dirty videos.
Now, Katy, Ariana, and Taylor are talented...sure.
But you can sit in front of MTV for 2 days and not see anyone who can actually sing, but they can all bump and grind and do the soft porn stuff and sing thru auto-tune.
However all this is not related to talent, its just the way the music industry now survives and teaches people who to like and listen to, etc.

Again, I don't watch regular TV or cable/satellite, including MTV, so can't really comment. I'm tempted to ask why you apparently do though, if you find it so unpleasant. (?)

How am i able to tell if someone can sing?
Well, most of my life has been spent listening to, studying, practicing, performing, or recording music, and over my lifetime, i've developed a very keen discernment regarding musical "sound".
One of the reasons i am able to access headphone sound is because i've owned nearly every headphone that has been created, and if i have not owned them all, ive owned some of each maker's models.
What i have not done, and will never do, is spend more then $2000 USD on a set of headphones.
So, if it costs less then $2000 USD, and it was made in the last 15 yrs, ive probably owned it or own it.
See my bio for the partial list., and there are quite a few here like me...that have owned so many sets of headphones, and speakers, and amps and turntables and on and on..
I only list gear on my bio here that is relevant to "Head-FI" which is, of course, headphones, mostly, and gear that drives them.
But i could list at least 50 Guitar amps and 300+ guitars ive owned or own........ and the recorders and the mixers and on and on.
Most of my life is spent with recording tools......much much more then headphone geek stuff. But i love it, and its fun to hang out here a bit.
So, because i work with gears that record as well as software that shapes musical sound, its very easy for me to hear not only how a "pop" vocal has been manipulated, but why.
The "why" these days, or for the last many years, is because once Napster created the beginning of the end of the music industry that was already malignant and dying of greed .....the music industry had to find a way to keep filling up its coffers.
Now, where as since the 30s, the way they did this was to "contract" an artist and rob them of all their future rights to their music catalog upon signing them, then kept them forever paying for recording it by touring them till they dropped.......
However, once illegal downloading destroyed the way the music industry use to find artists and WHY,..... which is, they had specialists who would, similar to professional athletics.....scout and locate those who really could do it "live", as well as had a good or great voice.
Once they found them, they would spend years maturing these artist, grooming these artist, and completely controlling these artist, including robbing them with glee.
Now, those days are over, for the most part..... and now all the music industry wants is the next soft porn product they can manipulate, including using production (crutches) on all the vocals you hear on MTV, so that real singers are no longer actually needed.
What is needed (female) is attractive willing young girls who will follow the current rules and methods that create "stars".....which is, dirty lyrics, dirty videos, and start them at about 17 if they can find them that young.
All the videos are highly polished soft porn, and these days Latino girls have become the next big pop music indulgence....... and this is for about 7 yrs now.
Actually, the literal history of what we see now as "dirty music" on Video, was created by Madonna in the mid "80s. She is the queen and literal blueprint that has been followed by nearly every female "pop"singer since she landed and became what Lady Gaga became and all the similar others that you have today.
They are basically all clones of Madonna's "act", including Beyonce, and all the rest.
Madonna is the rule book, she wrote it, and showed them all how to be vulgar and do it in the context of a pop song and use the power of dirty videos to build her success, about 35 yrs ago.
They (the music industry) continue to closely follow her playbook., and it keeps on selling and selling.
All they do is change the girls about every 3-4 yrs, but the game never changes.
So, to wind this up....
Right around the corner you'll be seeing a lot of Transgender "artists" as the next big event, next big manufactured "wow", and they'll be doing the same things, same dirty videos, same vocal production to hide the fact that that can't really sing.
And no, i dont really watch any type of music Television that has as its playlist, video after video....but what i do watch is concerts whenever i can find them, on these same "music" channels.
Europe always has a lot of huge outdoor festivals, and these are played quite often on some of the more popular music channels..
And then, i will always watch "Austin City Limits", if i happen to be free and its on.
