I'm not a total basshead, but I am looking at two headphones that I know have been discussed in this thread.  I can currently get the Pioneer HDJ2000 and UE6000 for around the same price and I'm having a hard time trying to decide which one to get.  I listen to just about every genre, with indie, singer-songwriting, and hip hop being the top three.

The DT770 is a great headphone if you can stretch to it. The bass is REALLY good but the mids and highs are nice as well. 

  If you dish out another $40 you could get a Beyer DT770 Pro 80 ohms. I haven't listened to the cans myself but, everyone speaks highly of the DT770 (pro 80 ohms being the bassiest of the bunch)

+1 on that.

DT990 Pro are also pretty bassy

The DT770, 880, and 990 all share the same drivers, the 770 gets the 80 ohm version to itself though. If alexv131994 is going to go for any of those beyers, he just needs to decide what's better for him. The 770 isolates VERY well, and 880 has good, deep bass and has a more natural sound than the other 2 overall, and the 990 has more of a V shaped sound, deep bass and bright highs with decent mids. 
 
 
If you aren't a basshead, I would recommend the DT880 250 ohm if you can stretch it or find a used pair. I loved my pair when I had them and only got rid of them to try new things.

Sorry, I think I am being misunderstood. I am asking about the HDJ2000 and UE6000 because I can get them both for under $100, which is my current budget. Which should I get? I don't have an amp and won't be getting one for a few months, if at all this year.

Well the HDJ-2000 has 5hz-30,000khz response where as the UE6000 only has 20hz-20,000khz response. If you can get the higher end can for the same price as the UE6000, you should probably do that. In terms of their sound sigs, I cannot comment.

I would get the HDJ-2000 simply because it is a higher end can, and I've heard its sound sig is quite good.

Just a warning and requirement when people mention the DT 770 as a basshead can..it's with regard to the Pro model. Specifically the 80 ohm version.
And NOT the discontinued DT 770 Premium or Manufaktur. The Manufaktur 32 ohm is definitely NOT a bass heavy can.
 
A UE6000 NC active is quite earpopping. And is so easy to drive straight from your player.
Also the XB600 surprised me. The midbass thump is quite strong. Pretty amazing for that price. The rest was pretty good too. Unlike the XB400 or the more expensive brethren.
 
Anyway just want to give you a personal warning with regard to the non pro DT 770.

you cant go wrong with both man...but i suggest you audition both first and try all ur music genres with it and let ur ear decide for itself.

Thanks for mentioning that. I owned the 80 ohm version, so a bass heavy DT770 is all I know. I didn't think about other versions being bass-light.

I had the 32ohm Anniversary LE version and it was far from bass light.

Hey guys, just got my cousin to buy a pair of UE6000's for about 100$ from Canada after selling his studios (YES!!!). Does anyone have experiences in terms of the difference in sound quality between the UE6000 and Studios? I would expect it to be a large jump...

Well the Studios in comparison to other headphones sound maybe something like $50 worth headphones while the UE6000 has been praised quite a lot and sound like great ~$150 headphones. You do the math.

i don't think they are really a good choice for travelling/isolation...
 
as an owner of both D2000 and M100, i personally would recommend the M100 over D2000 for portable use.
 
i paid $252AUD (approx $225USD) for my M100's, so within your budget.
