Hi..
I just ordered Super.Fi 5 EB's, and I just cannot wait to hear them...
I am a bass freak, but I also like to feel other layers as well, so I can totaly go deep when listening new age and trance music.
So, I buy them after reading so many reviews...
Can U describe me the sound of EB's, is the bass realy strong and deep as they say, and what about hi freq.
I am using an Ipod Video 30gb.

PS>>> I am happy because I have discovered this superb forum. Thank you all...

Listening to mine. Heard the pros and cons about them...I love them and you won't be disappointed with the bass! The audiophiles righltly say that they may drown the mids and highs but I haven't noticed it that much and enjoy mine with preset acoustic or loudness setting...Watch the volume however as they will hurt ears if excessive! I love them better than my e500 but that might be sacriligious to say that!!!

it will be quite muddy in the 1st 100 hours or so then it start to clear up. after 150-200 hours BLAM powerful bass without too much loss of the mids/highs.
if you want a better effect get a portaphile. or maybe another amp that has synergy with the EBs.

PS. Im selling my portaphile. Interested? PM me!

PPS. Sorry for the shameless plug :p

Find an amp that brings out the highs of the sf5eb, something like the portaphile, then it would really be basshead heaven. I've heard from a friend who has a eb that the treble will start appearing after much burn in.

Other than that, the bass is pretty much what it says on the box. Extended,(too bloated and boomy for me, if without an amp).

I agree so much with Koike who made a very astute observation. I havebeen pleasantly surprised that with time these headphones sound much better and more distinct. I have toyed with the idea of an amp but don't really need it for now...I never understood the concept of the "burn in" phenomenon but whatever happened, Koike is absolutely correct...and it's a basshead heaven! I must take up That Dude suggestion also. I can also tell you there are a lot of intellectual spammers who would love to put their own brands and give marked negative comments about ue...there is another post regarding this subject (http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=255302) PS I have no affilliation with UE.. just think the headphones are very good fun!
I just happen to think that give the eb a chance to burn in and you'll love them...

@ michaelbe3, I need to say that you are completely right. What is pure music without a fun that makes you jump when U walkin down the street. I have noticed that super.fi 5 pros are more selling item than Eb's, more liked and so...
But pull aut the bass driver from EB's and from super.fi 5 pros and what you get... the same sound. They are more expencive because of 2 balanced armature drivers, EB' just has just one balanced and one bass driver, but in one test I saw, with that config. EB's gives us much more...

@Koike, my friend, thank you a lot... When I get them I will put them on non stop working...hehe... I will see, if I decide to by an amp. I will buy from U. How much is it, PM me!

And what about that strange design of them... Is it realy so bad. Like you are wearing nuclear powered phones? It is not so important for me, if they rock with bass...

I joined this forum about a month ago so I could do some research on what IEMs to purchase to replace my E2Cs. After much reading and much thought I settled on the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5EB. I was afraid that the bass would be too much, but these were the best IEMs that I could afford that I knew wouldn't disappoint me in the bass department. They are also the least expensive dual driver phones on the market. After I got them I burned them in for the entire weekend. When I finally got around to hearing them I was really blown away. The bass was powerful, but not overwhelming. In fact, these phones sound more like my home audio system than anything I have heard (Carver HR-742, Klipsch KG2 speakers).

Now that I have had them for a couple of weeks, the sound is even better. Today I listened to "Bill Evans, Live at Shelly's Manne-Hole" and I was simply blown away. Bill Evan's piano was crisp with every note distinct and Larry Bunker's work on the cymbal was clear, clean and airy. Chuck Israel on the bass was absolutely fabulous. It was deep, but not muddy, and punchy, not diffuse.

I think that these are great earphones and they really do need time to burn in before their real character is reveled. I got them at a real steal at eCost for $85, unfortunately they are out of stock right now.
