The Audio Technica W3000ANV Thread

I am thinking about trying the mod, but IIRC, alpha pads are not round as the W3000 is.  Does it look bad with alpha pads?  Could someone please post a picture of the W3000 with alpha pads?

Thanks!

it looks bad imo. pretty sure max134 posted pics earlier in this thread.

Thanks up late.  This is http://www.head-fi.org/t/630386/the-audio-technica-w3000anv-thread/840#post_10364555.  And funny thing is that I now realize I had seen them before. :)

Anyhow, it does not look at bad as a I fear.  I'll give it a try... :)

I wouldn't be rushing to do the earpad mods solely based on the fact that the W3000anv is SO pretty! It may sound a little different/better, but if I have more than a pair of headphones, I'll leave the W3000anv to let it show it's true colours, both sonically and aesthetically.

That's possible, Show.  I have other W's and the pads may end up with some of the other ones.  We shall see...

So, I got the alpha pads. :)

Something kinda funny happened.

I decided to try them on my W1000 first.  I have two W1000s and thought that trying on one of them would be fun to do A/B and all that.

Well, I cannot get myself to take them out. :)

Yeah, I know this will pass.  They don't quite make a positive impact on everything.  But, on all things vocal... OMG!!!  This thing is awesome for that on the W1000!

I will eventually get to W3000...

Best,
Walfredo

Hello there,

recently i've just made an amazing thing : i've bought a balancing act with KRPX4 tubes. It will be at home in 3 weeks. Someone have this configuration and tell me how sounding a w3k with this marvellous amp ?

I liked the EC BA with W3000ANV's but you may want to consider an in-line resistor if you want to have a little more control for the volume pot.  Powered directly, they can get really loud with at a low setting.

Serial #1406 here. I'm using a budget solid state amp with them now.

There's something to be said for having to go through your collection and listen to entirely new genres,
that you kind of glossed over before.
I never took the time to listen to Cake songs, or the Ramones, even though I was aware they were in my collection.
Alternative rock is amazing now, I can't get enough of it.

And I only used to listen to jazz and EDM before. My genre preferences have been stretched open, and this isn't a bad thing.
And then there's Diana Krall vocals that make me want to cry with joy.

The W5000's used to love Emiliana Torrini, haven't tried her on the W3000 yet.

I've been thinking a lot about the HD650 and W5000, and they seem like similar cans in they share a romantic aspect.
The sense of refinement on W5000 is probably higher than W3000, but overall the W3000 are a more balanced and enjoyable listen.

I think the W5000 is something special, and I never got a chance to hear it with a nice tube amp. It might be worth another audition since I like the Audio-Technica house sound.
If you're not familiar with or don't like the Audio-Technica house sound you should steer clear of it though lol.

The W3000 are a bit further back on the mids than the W1000.
