Haven't had a chance to try it on higher end amps. Will soon though.
I know it has more bass than the HD800 but that's not exactly a balanced headphone either.

 
I wouldn't go as far as saying the HD800 is so unbalanced if it's amped properly. Ie. It's definitely more balanced than a Beyer T1 and sound sig is not so much different from a Stax O2.
 
I don't really understand the recent postings of people putting huge pads on the W3000ANV. It's not a Denon. Sounds like they want a Denon.

I have a Zana as well and they are not congested sounding. They are forward because they are midrange-focused closed headphones. It also has more bass than HD800 through the same Zana. Maybe you guys ought to put it on a proper amp?

 
When I had the W3000 I used it with the Zana as well as some other proper amps like P-1u, HP4 and HA5000ANV. My impressions were the same as yours. Like most AT woodies the W3000 has its own specific sound signature not suitable for all kinds of music. I found it best for music with a lot of vocals and hard to beat at that.

it's a mid-centric can with an n shaped frequency response. it won't sound like a denon, hd800 or t1.

Th900 is more v-shaped with some emphasis and dips in various parts.
I enjoyed both the th900 and W3000anv for different things but if either had been more neutral I would have kept them.

A close knit forum in Australia. It's a fantastic forum, primarily focused on full sized stereo set up. Shame there's not much going on there regarding head-fi, but we have lots of die-hard members.

Yeah, it was a good amp, beautifully made as well. Japanese voltage only though.
It seems the HA5000 isn't all that different from it and that one is available in 220-240V.

I'd get a step up transformer for the HA5000anv, not a big deal. The hard part is the 200 production unit limit.
 
No, I have never seen a L3000 in the Aussie forum. I've only seen them here, but its been a while and they weren't in perfect condition. I wouldn't settle for good enough.

So did I, I got a rather heavy one at the time but sold it off together with the amp I think.

What's up AppleheadMay? So I see you finally sold your HA5000ANV. Still trying to procure a complete L3000?
As a long shot there is one for sale at http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b159496524, but it's not a good deal. I've been watching that for a while, the guy is asking an outrageous price and he has relisted it many times cause no one is buying.
His feedback is bad as well, but thought I'd mention it.
 
As for my own setup, took a few pictures below. I mentioned that I wouldn't buy a W3000 in our conversations way back, but I caved after all and bought one early last year IIRC. And I still have the W11R as you can see below, so I rotate the three of them every once in a while.
The L3000 is still my absolute favourite though, that one will never go anywhere if I can help it.

Hah, I remember posting in that thread that I agreed with you on the L3000 impressions you have.  I'd love an L3000 for rock music, the kind of presentation that I enjoy.  The LFF Enigmas I own are similarly fun rock headphones, but loses a bit of the magical mids I enjoy from AT tuning.
