  HELP !

My 2.5 mm jack is not making a good connection with the plug from balanced cable.  Right channel cuts out, then left channel, then both. . .  arg!!!

Any suggestions short of sending in for reapir ?

What kind of 2.5mm plug do you have? How old and any pix? Last year and beyond, 2.5mm plugs seemed to have made a connection (I'm tempted to use the word "shorted") with the chassis of the AK240 and some businesses came up with these isolation rings :-

However I believe later on, 2.5mm plug makers started to make plugs that have that isolation built in.

Anakchan, if I recall correctly, the problem was particularly acute with the AK240SS...

I seem to recall AK240SS owners complaining too, although not certain if  there were more prominent than the std AK240 Duralumin owners. Your post did piqued my curiosity and doing a little digging, Duralumin seems to be a better conductor than stainless steel?

Heheh! That's what I recall. Of course, it's a rusty old brain at work... And I don't recall having any particular issue with my 2.5mm balanced plugs "shorting" with the AK240... :)

I was lucky with most my plugs (from @spkrs01 & from Wagnus) but I did have problems with Whiplash back then on my regular AK240.

I checked the contact at the surface of the socket and that does not seem to be an issue.  The problem is that the  contacts inside the unit are sprung out of shape cause some dumb-ass tried cleaning them with a small cotton swab and Deoxit.   I think I'm screwed . . .

EDIT:  There always was a kind of an intermittent contact with the 2.5 mm socket, but I really messed it up trying to clean the contacts.  I wrote to iRiver . . .  I'll let you know what happens  . . .

Thanks for the tip on 2.5mm plugs shorting out . . .  I wish it were that simple.  (Maybe that was the original problem.)

I never had the 2.5mm issue on either my regular 240 or my SS. I had my custom cables made by Double Helix.

My cables are Plus Sound Audio.  I don't think they were shorting out but I'll pay close attention when I get my 240 back from iriver.  They are only charging $40 to replace the 2.5 mm jack, so that is a bit of a relief.  Now I have to wait 7-10 days without decent sounding tunes when I go to the gym . .  .

My first post. Yay!  Nobody else it excited?  Ok, just me.

Has anybody commented on a firmware update that allows usb audio out with the AK240?  I've scoured the pages, but I only see that the AK380 has had a firmware update, not the AK240.  This would be a welcome upgrade.

Concerning the AK Connect app
Has anyone noticed that when the current version of the app (1.39) is newly installed on a current apple device such as IPhone 6S or IPad Pro , the vtuner option in sources no longer connects with the vtuner server
You get a network error instead
Conversely when the application was installed in previous version and previous iOS version on older devices
(iPhone 6 and IPad Air ) and later upgraded to current iOS 9.35 and current app version 1.39 it continues to work fine with vtuner
It's not only my problem. On a recent visit to the Apple Store the tech had the same problem on his own phone
I sent an email to Iriver but don't really expect a response.
If anyone has found a solution, please let me know

Someone here reported earlier that iriver posted on its FB page USB out is coming to the 240 ...

Thanks, jwbrent.  I guess I didn't do a good job of checking the posts in this thread.

No worries. There are so many posts to this thread, reading through them all is daunting.
