The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

Small, portable and great sounding amplifiers for the Tera Player?
Planning to try the Ether C Flow with it and the player itself doesn't have enough power to drive them properly.

My friend has a pair of the flows at home. Will probably try soon. Please let me know how they match.

Good to see you back here Ade.
I haven't heard a music player to sound like the Tera Player yet.
Fully enjoying mine since 2013 nearly weekly.
As soon as i can try the Ether C Flow i will let you know.
I can report that with the cheap Monk+ earbuds the sound is full, open with a big soundstage and this only after 40 hours.
I will expect the sound to improve after 200 hours.

Hello Ade, have you heard the Zen V2 black with the Tera Player? It supposed to come with a much nicer cable.

Sorry Levi I have the red corded version and haven't heard the black version. The red version is fine but not as easy to drive as the monks. The monks are amazing both sound wise and value wise.

So, the Zen V2 red corded is worth the asking price?
Does it sound 3-4 times better the the $5 Monk+?
The last one is incredible for the price, easily deiven by the Tera Player.

Definitely not 3 or 4 times the asking price. I actually prefer the monk in most cases.... The top end and definition of the Zen is superior but the monk is easy to drive and has great bass for an earbud.

Sorry, that's my first post here :)

If anyone still has an interest in modification of Tera by Russian enthusiast Symmcat, I can try to explain the difference in a short way.

1. The amount of lows was increased. For now, it has become really neutral in this aspect. Moreover, the control of lows has become better too. It can be obvious if you listen bands like Norma Jean, Chariot and so on. Better control made lows more detailed. That's the level of Hifiman HM-801 with custom amp.
2. Mids are not so sharp anymore. I did not notice any sibilance with using Alclair Reference, Etymotic ER-4S and Fischer Audio TBA-04 as my favourite IEM. Even though, the amount of details was increased significantly. However, mids are not as airy, as in stock Tera. They are more "brutal", but the separation of instrument stayed as amazing as it was in stock.
3. Highs are controlled better, than in stock device. Their amount was reduced. Symmcat is not a big fan of so bright sources.

Generally, Tera Symmcat Edition can be named as a little brother of a good-old Hifiman 801. Level of quality is the same. While 801 still has better bass texture, Tera SE is more clear in terms of highs.

If anyone has any other questions, I'm ready to answer. My collection of DAPs consisits of Hifiman 801SE, Ibasso DX100SE and Ihifi 960. However, as you can see, my English is so far from being perfect :)

Hello Greytomorrow and welcome.
I will be interested to find out in what exactly this modification is: you can tell us what exactly it is replaced inside the player, you don't have to tell what capacitors are replaced, etc.
Also this modification does improve the battery life or it makes it shorter? Is the output impedance same as before 10 & 20 oHm? Lastly if you can specify about the price and if we can see some internal photos will be great.
I would like to compare a modified Tera with mine.Thank you.

Good day, musicday! I'm not so good at technical language. Analog circuitry was recalculated. Shunting of DAC and opamp was redisigned. The main electrolyte was changed. Analog impedance was proportionally reduced ( 1 and 11). Output capacitors were replaced.
Modification reduces battery life for 2 or 3 hours. That's OK for me. For example, my 801SE works for 3 hours instead of 7.
I used to have some internal photos in my previous PC. However, now I have only one which can be seen on Symmcat's forum too.
Speaking of pricing and shipping. Symmcat noticed me, that there are some problems with international shipping from his town, so he can't send anything to the owners of DAPs with full guarantee that DAPs will reach the destination. This means that mediator is necessary.

A mediator has to be located in a different part of Russia or somewhere else? If you ask your friend that we can see some photos of his work modification of the Tera Player many may be interested especially in that 1 Ohm output, otherwise is quite hard to follow you my friends.

Hypothetically, I can be a mediator. However, there are at least 2 aspects. Firstly, for now I'm a junior Head-fier, so I don't have a good reputation. Secondly, Symmcat always asks for a lot of time for doing the modification because of serious queue among Russian audioholics since he modifies some other devices: Hifiman 801, Colorfly C4 Pro, QLS QA360, Ibasso DX100, Ihifi 960, Hidizs AP100. Regularly, waiting for a mod takes from 1 upto 2 months. I don't know if Head-fiers are accustomed to such waiting time...
I've sent him an e-mail with request for any photos of Tera SE. I'll post them as soon as I'll receive them. Here's the only one, that I have. Moreover, I can try to ask sonickarma to take some photos and write a review, because I sold him my own device in August.
The other idea is that I can send my own devices to Head-Fi reviewers: Hifiman 801SE and Ibasso DX100SE in order to understand the difference of quality between stock and modified devices.
