The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

Just for the record I defo noticed a change over time. Everything settles down. Now superb headphones - keepers :)

Second best headphones I've owned after the HD800. Even then I could understand some enjoying these more depending on source etc.

Same here. My K712 has gotten very smooth with more use. It used to be a bit edgy in the treble, really calmed down. Also the bass has become tighter over time. I am keeping the K712 for sure, it's the only headphones I have I don't want to let go of. I recently sold the HD 600 as I felt it had no place with the K712 around and well the HD 600 sounds a tad woolly compared to my other headphones. Which I don't find the case with the HD 650 interestingly, the HD 650 sounds clearer to my ears than the HD 600 despite being darker and bassier. The K712 I have noticed is a fickle beast in terms of the system, I don't know why but it's definitely more revealing of system changes as well as cable changes than the HD 600 and HD 650. My Beyers seem to change as much as the K712s though. Didn't realize how much the Beyerpeak tones down on a high end systems with Beyers.

K712 + HD650 are just amazing cans, those two can probably suit anyone's desires.

Has anyone had any success on methods of thoroughly cleaning the K712 earpads (not just wiping them off)? I wouldn't be asking this question if not for the memory foam in them, not sure how well they'd react to being submersed in water.

If I can't get a good answer to that, does anyone know where you can buy replacements?

You can get the Q701 on Ebay from wang_yifei 2009

They are angled (unlike the K712).
They also come with the tiny round foam inside the headphone as well.

Hey guys is the fiio e10k enough to power these? If not could someone send tell me what to get?
I would spend my money on a pure amp, no DAC. These cans want power to get full dynamics and volume.

Agreed. Sadly my HD 650 has a damaged driver, works but causes a channel imbalance. Luckily my DT 150 sounds similar enough to fill in the void of the HD 650.

HD650 drivers are easy to replace

^ Fairly sure K701 and K702 are the same, (body), but the K702 has a removable cable whereas K701 is fixed cable.  Pads should fit.  Check on Moon Audio for the pads, they usually say which headphones they will fit.

Alright thanks for the info.

That being said, does anyone know any site/place selling the pads for a reasonable price?

I've just contacted my local AKG distributor (Australia) and they said the pad would cost $132.60 (around $100 USD) each... Meaning it would cost $265.20 for a full pair.
Is this a normal price range for these "special" gel pad?
