Finally. I've been waiting for this one for a long, long time. I had been hoping for an ultra-deluxe Criterion treatment, à la Brazil and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, but this will do.

For anyone not familiar with this gem, if you're a fan of Terry Gilliam or just a fan of light fantasy (this is, for all intents and purposes, a glorious children's movie), do yourself a favour and at least rent it.

Any other Munchausen or Gilliam fans in general? Terry Gilliam enjoys a rather incredible spot as my favourite director, with four of his films sitting firmly in my top ten movies of all time: Munchausen, The Fisher King, Brazil and The Life of Brian.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was when they had to can "The Man who Killed Don Quixote".

Discuss!

If you're a fan of Gilliam you should really check out the even further out Alejandro Jodorowsky. The recent box set is only $33 at Amazon.

Been meaning to catch Tideland, actually. My movie viewing has been rather sparse lately. I'll probably just buy it outright. Gilliam's worst stuff is still outstanding, and this one looks like a treat!

[EDIT] Blessingx, thanks for the recommendation. I've been recommended his films before, but It's tough to find on rental (I rarely buy movies). At the Amazon price, I should just bite the bullet and go for it.

I love Gilliam's work! I still need to see The Fisher King, Tideland, and Fear and Loathing. Munchausen is a classic. Time Bandits is a riot as well.

Terry Gilliam is a delight. Thank you for the update. I loved that film as a child, and I still love it today.

Brazil was odd...and I watched it during an anxiety attack...perhaps I shall have to rent it again.

brazil, twelve monkeys and jabberwocky are among my favorite movies, but i'm not particularly fond of baron munchhausen. too much money... 'hamster factor' in full gear (if you wonder what the hamster factor is, check out the documentary on the deluxe edition of 12 monkeys - best 'making of' i've ever seen.)

an aside question for gilliam afficionados: whatever happened with the 'brothers grimm'? did they put a gun to his head? threaten to torture his pet fish eric? dare him to make the worst movie he could? i mean HOW could he? was it revenge? desperation? did he do it just to prove how worthless an actor matt damon is? was he so infatuated with monica belucci that he couldn't see straight?
