Hi Silver,

I think the D321 is a good choice for you. I bought one in very good condition at HK$220. There should still be one left in good condition. It sounds much better than a Panasoninc SL-SX510 (very similar to the famous 570) which is not bad compared to newly realsed models. Very solid build using 2 AA battery. It has 3 SEC ESP anti-shock. Very similar to the D311. With a limited budget, you can't go wrong.

Silver,

RM1300 for a DZ555 is too expensive. I bought a non-working unit at HK$200. If the shop can repair it, the repairing cost should be HK$250. There are lots of vintage units that are not working available in HK. D350, DZ555, D25, D99.......etc. I think replacing the laser head or carrying out some minor repair can fix it. A small repairing shop told qoute me HK$250 for replacing a laser head + other minor repair necessary to resume the unit. However, if parts are not available, they would just return the unit without charging me.

I went there a while ago but I couldn't find any 321s there.

You need to search carefully. There should be one available at the kiosk selling some disman in medium condition. I still saw it 3 days ago.

Could you bring me there when we have a meeting in the upcoming days?

My first D555 had a noise through its headphone output whenever a 'function' was used... but that was faulty throughout as it had a mismatch on the headphone output (reportedly a common fault with the D555s)

Then I got an absolutely mint condition D555, and the problem was gone... and a good quality sound was heard... the rest is history

PeterR...

...One channel was significantly louder than the other... and the loud(er) channel was prone to distortion... it was rectified by the new owner though..

...Just listening to the D555 with the RS1... it could need re-evaluation by me... Hmm...

Hello Duncan,

What was the problem with the D-555? What was the mismatch?
Did it have to do with the output coupling capacitors like the ones that were bad on my D-555? Or is there some other D-555 issue?

Best regards,

Paul

D555...

I have no idea, it went off to a new home, and its new owner fixed the volume level mismatch, but from what I remember there was still transport noise going through the headphone out...

Sorry I can't be more helpful
