The errant javelin pierced his right side. The guy suffered a slight tear at the top of his kidney. The event took place at a track meet in Rome on (Get This) Friday July 13, 2007. (The athlete was released from the hospital the next day.

As of 07/17/07.

Summary: He had to go back to the hospital after his initial visit. Initially, the docs thought that the javelin only pierced 4 cm and put a slight tear in his kidney, so he was patched up and released. He came back and they found that the wound was 10 cm deep and poked a hole in his liver. As per the article, he's staying for tests and possibly surgery on his liver if it doesn't heal up. Supposedly he ended up not needing surgery.

Yikes I have never seen someone throw one of those things that far off-target. He missed the playing field by ~10-15 meters

Am I the only one that thinks it's kind of stupid to have javelin practice take place with running sports in the same arena? Accidents are bound to happen. Next thing you'll see is some video of a runner being beaned by a bronze discus
eek.gif
How about putting the sports that require throwing heavy/ sharp objects off in their own sectioned off venues?

I don't think any running is taking place when a throw is being taken. And people on the field should really pay more attention when a pointy object is in the air.

He's probably safe unless the runner could throw the javelin back at him :p

But im also surprised that they have Javelin throwing with THAT many people still mulling around the field...
